What is the best stoner metal album and why is it pic related?
>>70962969
Such an astonishing album.
Welcome to Sky Valley would be another best album.
Underrated masterpiece right here
>>70963033
Is that stoner metal? It's usually tagged under alternative metal so I've never given it a try. Looks cool.
>>70962969
Dopesmoker
>>70963569
/mu/ needs to stop making this Dopesmoker > Holy Mountain meme.
>muh long song
>muh drop out of life
>tfw saw a cutie in a denim jacket with a huge SHM patch on the back
>tfw didn't say anything
>>70963594
you missed your one chance f a m
>>70963594
go to any doom show in your area and you'll find like twenty
>>70963576
as much as i like Holy Mountains, Dopesmoker is clearly superior
>>70963627
Just because it's long doesn't mean it's good
>>70963641
but when it's so good, the length is justified
>>70963671
I love Dopesmoker almost as much as I love Holy Mountain, but the difference in each song really brings out the strength of the whole album
>>70963576
>anything I disagree with is a meme

satan worshipping doom is better

autists are NOT welcome here

This, Dopesmoker, Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics... are pretty much unbeatable as the best stoner metal albums. Everything after is more or less a rehash of these four albums. Stuff like OM and Bongripper is fantastic as well, but I wouldn't classify them as pure stoner metal. Kyuss' albums are great too, but with a more rock/desert oriented sound.
>>70965349
those four albums are just a rehash of Sabbath
>>70965349
Every stoner metal band but Sleep and Electric Wizard btfo

holy mountain is the only album that really does straight sabbath worship, and even then songs like holy mountain and from beyond kind of break from that

Why would anyone like this album?

cmon swedish house mafia are not that obscure anon
>>70966111
not stoner really, but very very good
>>70966188
stoner is such a boring subgenre, every band sounds exactly like the other
doom and funeral doom are much better
Sludge, stoner, doom it's all the same fucking thing.
So this easily, without any real competition.
>>70966335
>he can't differentiate stoner from sludge from classic doom
kys yourself
>>70966300
>every band sounds exactly like the other

>>70965907
>>70966374
well obviously early doom like pentagram is different from nudoom.
But it seems like no one here listens to pentagram. Candlemass is about as far back as people go
>>70965907
this album is fucking garbage
as if they wanted to make stoner as accessible as possible by adding as much pop rock elements as possible
>>70966411
most people here are from /mu/ and have a relatively short knowledge of metal, so that's understandable
they mostly listen to the entry-level albums
My dad wants to get into stoner, but he's not very used to metal (he's mostly dadrock) so I'm not sure what albums could I recommend him. Something with a not too much aggressive sound.
He listened to Om's Pilgrimage and liked it.
>>70967359
I showed my dad stoned jesus, uncle acid and the deadbeats, and some of earth's later stuff and he likes all of it.
>>70967359
If he likes Om, he'd probably prefer Dopesmoker to Holy Mountain. If those two are too aggressive for him, show him Kyuss or Volume One. If those aren't aggressive enough for him, show him Weedeater, Bongzilla, or High on Fire. For a good middle ground, Melvins or Boris.
>>70967359
black sabbath, blue cheer, candlemass, pentagram, witchfinger general, saint vitus, reverend bizarre
>>70967359
Early Sabbath. Then show him Kyuss, or something semi-stoner like QotSA, then move him to the lighter Melvins albums and so on
>>70967409
>>70967411
>>70967416
>>70967513
Thanks, I think I'll start with Stoned Jesus, Queens of the Stone Age and from there we'll see if he's up to something heavier.
He has always been a fan of Sabbath, but he's not really into hardcore vocals and stuff like that.
Only the things that Al Cisneros touches are good stoner metal
>>70968964
That makes up half of all stoner metal lmao. The man is a legend
>>70968975
No matter what group I listen to: Bongripper, Electric Wizard, Kyuss... I can't get into them, but Om, Sleep, I can't get enough of.
The only other man who I think makes good droney/stoney stuff is Dylan Carson of Earth
Pic related for dem desert feels
Everyone shits on this band because the singer sounds too much like Ozzy, but this is a solid fucking album
>>70963576
proceeds the plebian
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Kyuss - Blues For The Red Sun (this one's far more metal than Sky Valley)
Down - NOLA
Sleep - Holy Mountain
Clutch - Blast Tyrant
Any of Church Of Misery's first three albums
Samsara Blues Experiment - Long Distance Trip
Overly drawn out, sometimes riffless junk like Dopesmoker and Dopethrone are overrated as hell and only for people that don't actually listen to metal, thus not having much of an appreciation for songwriting/composition.
