Kraftwerk are one of my favorite bands and they're obviously very influential. But, you're missing the point: Grimes built over their legacy, she made the synthpop more complex by adding influences from many other genres and mixing everything into something unique. Kraftwerk were fairly minimalistic and robotic, Grimes made evolved emotional synthpop. As great as Kraftwerk were, they could never make songs like these:

Imo one thing that has always bothered me about the constant comparisons between Grimes and Bjork is because of how fundamentally different the underlying contexts in which their respective bodies of music exist. Bjork makes - for lack of a better term - "weird" music that exists wholly outside the mainstream of music culture. In contrast, Grimes makes "weird" music that exists wholly within the mainstream of music culture. Bjork's music is all about weirdness abstracting you from what is deemed normal. Grimes' music is all about injecting weirdness into what is deemed normal, and therefore shifting the very definition of what normality is.
It's the main reason why I honestly think Grimes stands a far more likely chance of being hugely influential on the culture of music itself in the years to come than someone like Bjork. Bjork's music is ultimately a dead branch on the tree of music history. Grimes' music is a whole new set of roots being formed.

You can't be serious. Some of her music is indeed obscure, but some of it's catchy as fuck. She has songs like Omega, Shadout Mapes and songs like Realiti, Oblivion. Hipsters are ironic but there's nothing ironic about her music and music taste. She likes both experimental and pop music and she combined both to achieve her vision.

Bjork has been around as a musical act for more than 40 years. Just because people have become acclimated to the existence of her music doesn't mean it is technically part of the mainstream.
For the most part, Bjork's music consists of outside musical elements/contributors inserted into the Bjork musical ecosystem. If Bjork were to do a country album, it would come out as a Bjork album with country in it.
In contrast to this, apart from her really early stuff (dating from before she had figured out how established musical styles work) Grimes' music is based on taking the musical uniqueness of Grimes and inserting it into the mainstream musical ecosystem. If Grimes were to make a country album, it would come out as a country album with Grimes in it.
Stylistically speaking, Grimes' and Bjork's music are total inversions of each other. Bjork's is playing at its own game. Grimes' is changing the way the game is played by others.

I disagree. Grimes is also playing her own game. Her art exists within the limits dictated by herself. She does everything by herself while Bjork still relies on other people to make her art. Grimes even directs and edits her own videos and draws all of her album covers. She took even further the concept of a complete artist. And that it's a game changer. It's ridiculous to claim that Grimes is changing the way the game is played by others when she's in complete control over HER OWN GAME.

The thing is that Bjork was already popular when she released her Debut. Grimes was a nobody until her third album, Visions. Just to put things into perspective. Also all Grimes albums are far weirder than the '90s Bjork albums. Not even Bjork attempted something like SCREAM or Omega. The weirdest thing about Bjork is her voice; her instrumentals are fairly normal.

But that's just it. Bjork's audience is there for Bjork's Bjorkness beyond anything else. There isn't really any room for expansion in her fanbase beyond that.
To put things another way, Bjork's music is stranger on the surface than it is internally. Grimes' music is stranger internally than it is on the surface (and purposefully so.) It's a distinctly different creative outlook, and results in a completely different value to their respective bodies of art in the long run.
