Women don't deserve special treatment within a genre just because of their gender. There are bands that I like with female members, but not because of said female members. Pic related is a good example.

Female vocals can spice up a metal song really well. It's a shame a lot of the metal community is Like That or there might be more variety in the genre + subgenres

I don't think gender really matters too much besides aforementioned issues for any other instruments though.

Having a girl in a band's lineup is a very bad sign for a metal band. The vast majority of metal bands with females suck. Just speaking from observation. Even then, they are typically not a core member, and are not involved in composition or anything past simply playing the instrument.

Metal requires a certain amount of isolation and aggression to play well. You have to be a genuinely strange and poorly socially adjusted individual to make good metal music, and very few girls meet those criteria. The ones who think they do usually opt to make shitty punk music anyways.

Call me an edgelord, but women really don't have what it takes to be legendary metal musicians. That's just their nature. They're social creatures, and metal in an asocial genre.

Women keep setting back women in metal. There is no reason for them to play dress-up at every show, for every shoot (especially when the male members of the band are jeans/t-shirt guys) but they keep doing so. I equally have no respect for men who keep over-dressing compared to the rest of the band, but it typically is the female bassplayer/singer/keyboardist that looks like a 90s bondage show advertisement.

Plus every now and again they start 'all-female' bands which barely ever work out or are any good. Especially at the 'local band' level this never seems to go well enough to not damage people's perception.

I remember a case a couple of years ago where a former member of an obscure metalcore band wanted to start an all-female band called Heels of Steel (despite there already being a band with that name). They spent months blogposting about their 'progress' finding members and writing songs and posting personal pics on the band page. Ultimately they 'settled' for a male drummer, but they never released anything despite blogposting for well over a year.

Which is ironically what I just did. Fuck.

Women in metal are boring and sluts like in every other musical genre.
The biggest innovation they have done is to wear corsets and be fat like that evanaces chick.


Like how hard is it to use radical feminism and images of dead men on album covers as an aesthetic and make black metal, christ, you could totally do that.
