My boyfriend has a huge crush and grimes and it makes me a little jealous to be quite honest. He browses here in occasion so he may see this.
For me her music is very hit or miss, some songs I find orgasmic and others repulsive.

I heard about her around 2011 but it took me a long time to really get into her music. I liked few songs from Visions but never listened to her older albums or even to the other Visions tracks. Another thing: singing is not her main priority, producing and writing songs is. At some point she even wanted to work exclusively behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer.

Taste is subjective desu. Imo she is a GREAT director and editor. And I'm saying that despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of non-linear narrative filmmaking either (the essence of her style):

It's exactly the same deal for me as with Quentin Tarantino (whose style, as explicitly mentioned in the quote above, is a direct inspiration for hers.) I generally do not like the way his films are put together. However that doesn't change the fact that I find him to be a brilliant director and consider most of his films to be some of the greatest works (of their kind) ever made.

Tbh though, I'd LOVE to see her start working on more linear stuff in the near future since, as mentioned - that's the sort of thing I personally prefer.

Actually... no. One of the advantages of non-linear storytelling in music videos is that it helps keep the song at the forefront of attention. A music video with a strong, coherent, linear narrative story to it isn't really a "music" video. It's a short film with music accompanying it.

I'd LOVE to see her make short films. And long films. And continue to make music videos which ARE truly music videos. I like variety desu.

Gotta totally disagree with you about her color work. I have about ten years of professional experience working in the photography production/post-production world, and the color grading in her videos since she took that role up with Go has been generally fantastic in terms of quality.
