Just getting into rock, where do I go from here?

>>70912013
where do we go from here?
Led Zeppelin's discography.
>>70912013
everything else that has released by them that isn't called squeeze
Who the fuck starts rock with Velvet Underground?
Also, OP, rock is a genre than can mean 50 different kinds of rock. The Beatles and the Dead Kennedys are both rock. You should put a word before rock so people know what period you're talking about. Classic, psychedelic, punk, whatever.
Velvet falls under the first couple categories so I guess logically next you check out other 60s rock (which in my opinion is as good as the genre ever got)
Beatles, Kinks, Byrds, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, CCR, Bob Dylan, Doors, Zombies, Beach Boys
>>70912598
Excellent response, but The Velvet Underground is fantastic place to start with music in general. The importance and quality of this album makes a must listen for anyone.
>>70912630
I guess my surprise was more based on the fact that Velvet is a pretty obscure rock band compared to the stuff that is usually on classic rock radio, and so it's harder to start with them because usually you'd already have been exposed to a lot of rock. I have nothing against the Velvet.
Depends where you want to go:
>If you're looking for something more noisy: Iggy Pop
>Similar to Velvet/Lou Reed: David Bowie
>Looking for something heavy: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin
>More psychedelic: The Doors, Hendrix, Joplin, Jefferson Airplane
>More Folksy: Bob Dylan; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (or just Neil Young's solo stuff)
These are pretty much the household names, obviously once you get past these, you'll find your tastes and proceed to dig deeper from there.
>>70912013
How can you just now being getting into one of the most popular genres ever? Do you live in some ghetto neighborhood in Detroit or something? Have you been living under a rock?
>>70913020
Yes
>>70912013
There is only one direction
>>70913020
>Under a
rock
>>70912013
If ya started with that then I suggest sticking the 70's and 60's for the moment as you find stuff you like. I've really found myself loving the Hard rock bands of the 70's like
Led Zeppelin: https://youtu.be/H8bVaTW6UCU
Rainbow: https://youtu.be/MHCdCbTxypU
Thin Lizzy: https://youtu.be/HveIaNnzfnc
ZZ Top: https://youtu.be/-jB_QM73Slk
Blue Oyster Cult: https://youtu.be/0OBs6S1lW_Q
You have plenty of freedom exploring music streaming services and youtube, look around op and find things you enjoy and take moments to listen to things you'd never expect to listen to, you might surprise yourself with what you like.

In my 20 years of sporadically listening to classic rock radio, I don't remember a Velvet song every being played.
>>70915021
I've heard Sweet Jane like once on the radio.
>>70913123
