Been some surprisingly good stuff lately (my other three Aphex Twin album ratings are lower, two of them are two stars so I was surprised how much I liked this one)...I do feel a bit bad that I listened to my first 2017 album even though I've still never heard anything from 2016

Well, like I said, I'm not the original guy, but based on the only Motorpsycho album I've heard (Demon Box), they are not even in the same realm as pop groups like Camel...but if you're saying they are pop now too, then that confirms his point even more I guess

I definitely wouldn't put Out to Lunch as low as Blur, but RYM doesn't allow you to define ratings based on genres. A 3-star jazz album to me is way higher than a 3-star Britpop album.

And like my filename, the album just didn't connect. That's just me being a jazz pleb I guess.

How do you feel about CSH since he signed to a label? I thought Teens of Denial was OK, but I feel like his stuff's gotten less compelling over all. I didn't dig the rerecorded tracks from Style.

I've never been that deep on CSH, I remember my brother showing me him a few years back and thinking it was pretty good but I feel like the indie scene hype is a bit much for what it is. The only other record I've really listened to is Twin Fantasy and I probably preferred that but even that I'm not huge on.

I feel that. I could dig some of his earlier stuff because it was.. cute. He's pretty good lyricist, but he was never that fantastic instrumentally. The songs were always pretty simple or repetitive. Now I feel like he's even lost his lyrical touch in exchange for ""better"" instrumentation. The problem is, the instrumentation isn't much better since they're just some rando kids he went to school with
