I think the problem is insecurity. Seems insecurity is at the root of perfectionism, which freezes us up when we think about how easy it can be to go in directions we didn't intend to.

I think some people get pushed to the point where their insecurity becomes hatred, in the form of anti-intellectualism. I've been through it. I loved calling people pretentious. But looking back, I'm pretty sure I made a lot of false assumptions, probably because I didn't like feeling like shit and making other people feel like shit made me feel slightly better.

I know you probably weren't wondering about this. I'm just rambling because I'm snowed in and work got canceled and I can't go back to sleep and now I'm bored.
