Is this the best metal album?

It's not even the best Sepultura album.
If you want to see a bloated Max and Igor play this thing live, they are touring now playing it in its entirety.
it's not even metal it's new age world music

best metal album ever: no
best metal album in the last 20-25 years: probably
It's a genuinely fantastic album.
However, I do prefer Monolith by Amebix.

>crust punk
>metal

Amebix effectively started crust, along with Discharge, true, but that album is at least as metal as anything by Venom or Motörhead. Plus they were a huge influence on everyone from Sepultura to Neurosis to Voivod.

Been jamming for years under the name Blood Flow. When we started we were a hardcore band, but now we've been doing folk. Still Blood Flow, though
it's objectively Hell Awaits by Slayer

I never understood the Slayer worship. People seem to like them because they're the most intense major thrash band, but they're only intense by thrash metal standards. They're tame compared to crossover thrash bands like Cro-Mags, and they're even more tame compared to early black metal like Bathory, early death metal like Death, and early grindcore like Napalm Death. They kind of seem like the big fish in the small pond, only for some reason that pond got really fucking rich.

it's not because they're the heaviest of all time, because they're obviously not. it's just because they're fantastic. in their prime, they pumped out killer riff after killer riff and yes, in their prime, they were among the heaviest. they influenced extreme metal so much, much of early death metal was a direct evolution of what Slayer was doing.
