It was still a huge disappointment after Interview 2016. Those tracks were so good, and then BP is Linkin Park tier drivel.

Sorry hipster fags but interview 2016 is just shitty repetitive beats that andy morin made in like 1 month
>>
>>70868610
There is nothing patrician about his taste. Government Plates is the sloppiest, most inconsistent collection of songs they've yet released, and Niggas on the Moon, while quite innovative, is totally front-loaded. BP is easily their best album since NLDW.
>>

I actually found the sense of humor and self awareness on BP refreshing

it's far an away MC ride at his most evolved, it's basically objectively true

I respectfully disagree. GP was like their bubblegum album for me; I loved it at first, but it very quickly lost its flavor. Starts off strong, but the second half really meanders... And it doesn't help that Ride is only on a handful of the tracks or is treated as a repetitive vocal sample on others

Their next album should have a very dark low pitched male choir in the background with chanting and heavy bass in the production and very primal, energetic drumming and they should experiment some more with playing with Ride's vocals like in Birds.
>>
>>70868269
It's a fine record. All their raw, energetic, visceral records (ExM, JD, BP) are better than their straightforward ones (TMS, NLDW) which are 10000000000x better than their attempts to be "whacky and weird and ssssssoooo mysterious!" (GP, NOTM, Interview)

Pick any DG track, seriously.

To make this easier. Here's this old electro track with a faster break.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i46sF1PcqL8

If you slow the drums down a lot, you get the *bass, snare, bassbass, snare* bit that you can hear in like...Up My Sleeves for example.
>>

>>
>>70871657
In the context of exactly what I was and have been talking about this whole topic, they are pretty common in terms of their raw, visceral attack.
>>
>>70871657
Takyon was fresh and exciting when it came out.

GBPGI was just more stale memeshit, and it's actually the best song on the record.
>>
>>70871691
It looks like you've been trying to convince someone that Death Grips uses break beats but strawmanned that they didnt like Takyon and called them a shallow, immature hypocrite.
>>
>>70871712
>black metal hip hop is somehow a stale meme
>not *glass breaks*
>not "up my sleeves" x10000
>not "getgetgetgetgotgotgotgot"
>not *charles manson sample that overstays its welcome every time*
At least GBPGI gets straight to the point instead of these literal meme intros.

>>70871734
No, the breaks argument has long been over. It wasn't much of an argument to begin with considering that the other anon has no clue what breaks are if he thinks DG doesn't have tracks consisting of breaks (like the entire hip hop genre).

So I went back to the original argument at hand here where that OP is either a pussy who can't appreciate DG's more visceral, energetic works, or is a hypocrite if he does enjoy their earlier, more raw stuff like ExM but can't find any enjoyment out of BP.

Perhaps pay attention to the entire topic and read everything before posting. That's always a good idea here.
>>
>>70871824
Black metal hip hop is a neat idea, but unfortunately it was not executed very well in GBPGI

I would like to see more hip hop with black metal samples though. Dunkelheit by Burzum would be really good for it.
>>
>>70871824
I did read the thread. All I see is you being pretentious and strawmanning so you can feel like you know anything about music.
>>
>>70868813

agree, $TORE felt a bit overproduced, NLDW and GP were my favorites
>>
>>70871876
Eh, certainly better than this attempt by Kanye at using a sample from that very Burzum album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ocXKh_uz9A

Also prefer it to most of Dalek's experiments as well since Ride has the kind of vocal delivery style to be able to pull of more fast paced black metal that GBPGI is basing itself from.

>>70871903
You have no clue what strawmanning is. The response to my posting an example of a break was met with a joke instead of a legitimate response, implying he has nothing else to add to it, so I went back to the main idea. Don't confuse condescension for pretension.
>>
>>70869370

Nah, but that whole album does the same exact thing through and through where each track is made up of two wildly different sounding parts and they alternate between the two. While the switching back and forth between such parts kinda gives this weird cryptic drugged out feel, that's kinda all the entire album does.

I think that a lot of DG's fans (particularly those that do like them unironically) are also big fans of hardcore punk and noise rock, so I can totally see why a lot of DG fans veer towards Jenny Death. The guys that are usually the ones going batshit crazy at the shows (or are too old to go batshit crazy at the shows.)
>>
>>70872432
I agree with this. The album has its gems and really some of their greatest tracks, but I just can't get behind it as a whole. Way too inconsistent. Whatever I Want is also their weakest closer; the track goes nowhere. I couldn't care less if that was their intention; it's not something I enjoy listening to at all.
