Okay /mu/ - I come to you with a question
You're an independant artist with 5 songs you wanna put out pre-recorded
How do you make your first 1000 followers / subscribers and build a following on social media
I'm talking mostly online marketing from scratch literally nobody knows you exist
I show off my boobs
i make good music because im a genius and people follow
easy

if you're asking it on /mu/ you're probably not going to make it to 1k

make a sex tape
Shit thats a tough question.
I actually had to go into the real world and shill my music by playing small bars and giving friends CDs
yes, CDs
in 2016 I gave people Compact Disks full of my music
you may ask why and I'll tell you, CDs are cheap as sin and people still have mediums on which they can listen to them.
don't force it though, it has to be a natural progression of building a small following

Oh I have my own ideas I'm just curious to see what /mu/ thinks

you should interact with the local scene of whatever genre you're playing
do you know a lot of people who are into the music you make or are you just making music that sounds like the stuff you listen to on your own?

Make social media for your band, youtube, and bandcamp. Make a promo video or something like that for your band and put it on the social media page. Share the page on your regular social media accounts and ask good friends and family to share it too. Make semiregular posts on social media with pics or video previews of you playing something. Try to hype up the release of something soon. About a week after the initial sharing release a single. Either do your favorite song of your ep or make a new one. With this announce your upcoming release and make sure the song is shared with your friends and family, try to get them to share it too. Put the song on your youtube channel and bandcamp with tags so people can find it, and link every page to eachother. Throughout the next week or so continue updating social media and after 1-3 weeks following your single put out the ep. During this time you should make sure the music is good and research places to shill. Find music blogs and reviewers to send the ep to, figure out what websites you'll post it on. Make sure to get it on social media. Once its out send it to all the reviewers, bloggers, radios, websites, and people you want. Shill the fuck out of it, but don't charge for it, just get it everywhere.
Afterwards just keep updating social media and make music videos or some shit, you'll figure it out. Just keep people interested without burning them out.

my local scene is post harcore bands and horrendously bad grime rappers.
I'm about a 20 minute train from the centre of London so there's that
I make UK Hip-Hop and Grime - I'm a producer and a rapper and my only contact is my homie who been rapping long as if have.
Other than that, there is no decent local scene for this kind of music

I see people about doing this sort of thing but they are normally struggling and it just comes off kind of cheap. I must admit though the music was pretty trash. Amazing how many shitty artists there are with promotion on lock but no substance

start going to london more often and try to be a regular at places that play the kind of music you're making. meet people and try to make friends with the ones playing there
By shilling your garbage in the band camp threads. Will Toledo did it and made it to Fallon.
