I used to be /teamsouvlaki/ back when I was completely new to shoegaze. It's a fantastic album, but it drops in quality after space station. Also, they were planning on having Eno produce the entire thing but he only produced Sing and songs like here she comes and dagger arguably feel out of place. It's not as cohesive of a package.

Then I discovered that Just For a Day and Loveless are both stronger albums than souvlaki

I agree with your assertion that their are weak songs on Souvlaki (there are) But Alison, 40 days, when the sun hits are epics for the shoegaze ages. I feel they trounce loveless up and down the street on the merits of just those songs to be honest.
