I desperately need more (proggish?) folk like this track, can you rec me anything comparable?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlX1OUfds3Q

The only song I know of that gives me similar vibes is this:

Roy Harper - Stormcock

Didn't expect a reply so fast! Yeah that one's pretty great too, I'd prefer a female singer though, or more choir-like multiple vocal arrangements in the music.

Posting another tune of a similar (dare I say "dream folk"?) style that comes to mind:

maybe this?

Sounds quite "unfamiliar" (not too familiar with finnish folk desu) but works just as well, thanks! Got any more?
>>
>>70823624
Paavoharju for more finnish folk
have you listened to linda perhacs?
>>
>>70823659
Will have to look up Paavoharju then
>have you listened to linda perhacs?
Can't say I have desu, but from the short sample I'm hearing right now it seems pretty spot on, thanks m8.

it doesnt really fit the critera, but when you say dream folk i think of grouper
>>
this album kinda has what you're looking for at times

I also love the Herald OP, great song. There is nothing else that sounds like it but I would recommend Sung Tongs by Animal Collective, Parallelograms by Linda Perhacs, These Trails' self-titled. There's also The Christ Tree by The Trees Community (obscure Christian-hippie psych folk band).
In terms of movie, watch The Wicker Man (1973) if you haven't already, the whole OST is great. Also Picnic at Hanging Rock, it's basically the movie version of the Herald.

>>70823732
This too
>>
>>70823732
Grouper is nice, but yeah it's a different angle

Paavoharju have lovely melodies but the electronic touches turn me off unfortunately. Do they have anything fully acoustic?

>>70823763
Interesting but quite a lot different. Will probably try the whole album regardless.

>obscure Christian-hippie psych folk band
Now that's more like it!
Thanks for the movie rec too, Wicker Man is fantastic but I've never heard of the other one.
>>

if you really want, this chart might have some similar stuff
cant really say cuz i haven't listened to all of it
>>70823769
hadn't heard of these trails, this is nice

> proggish
Fuck off, pleb.
>>
>>70823873
Holy fuck I was completely unaware of a freak folk chart! thanks
>>
>>70823873
Really bizarre chart, the albums are all over the place stylistically and most I know of aren't all that "freaky" at all. Stuff like Sun City Girls sure, but Pelt? The Incredible String Band?
>>
You need Natural Snow Buildings

Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, any of their albums

First Utterance and Ame Debout happen to be my top two favorite albums of 1971

How is Pelt not Drone Folk?

How is drone folk freak folk?

Check out Simon Finn - Pass the Distance. Jerusalem is really the only song that sounds like Comus but the album is great anyways
