In a nutshell, without hard evidence the only thing to go on is speculation of motivation. If he is a pedo then he's obviously very invested in crafting a solid cover story, as numerous writings on working to expose child sex trafficking (the "research" in question) had existed on his own website both before and after the police intervention for years.
