Checkin in.

Just ordered me one of these. Cost me a thousand didgeridoollars (AUD). They are usually about 1500 here so that is a bargain.

Coming from a beat-up M-300FM with a piece of shit floyd rose special. Gonna be good to get my hands on a decent fixed bridge for once. What a pain that FR was.

Whoa. I heard the AD140 has tonnes of volume on tap. I've always liked Orange into Marshalls and vice versa, two very different, but pleasing sounds in their own way.

I'm a big fan of solid states and EMGs and would love to get my hands on a CR120 head and run it through pretty much the same cabinet.
>>
Explain me the difference between contemporary Mustangs and Duo-sonics.
>>
Guys, I need some help with amp modelling here.

I'm using a somewhat old Tascam interface to run my guitar through amplitube, using their Tiny Terror amp, and using impluses from Red Wirez.

Thing is, I'm not getting a very good sound from this. I'm not sure what I'm fucking up but it seems that I can't crank up the input level too much or it clips like hell, but using lower input makes the distortion sound really weak, and I'm leaving the gain knob on max.

Now, I'm an absolute beginner in this, and I was under the impression that clipping in this case is something that I shoud avoid like the plague, so I need some pointers to get a better sound from this.

Just be relaxed and listen to what the other guys are doing. Loads of guitarists try to do their "style" during a jam and really everyone else wants you to complement the song they are playing. Also giving people a cue when it's their time to solo helps.

What? You mean price wise? You having a laugh mate.

An ESP Viper will set you back 2000 on-wards for Japanese variants and up to 5000 buckaroonies for USA models. An M-II? 2700/6000 respectively. It's ridiculous money for not much more than what you get with an LTD model.

Prices are going to be hiked up come June or July or whenever it is, because they start taxing imports with GST or something. So fellow ausfags, I suppose if youre thinking of buying international, better do it soon. I always find local is more or less on par with international sellers once you factor in intl. postage.

Poor old vipers get no love and absolutely horrid designs sometimes. I don't understand why no high profile artist has ever really sported one besides James Hetfield (very rarely) and Pepper Keenan. There is a lot to like. Much thicker than an SG (if that's what you're going for) and something like a1000 series LTD is on par with an SG Standard for a lot less money.

What makes a guitar baritone. Is it the actual neck length or just the number of frets?
>>
>>70740138
Absolutely. The point gives you more control, but it's not super sharp like some other picks so it still glides nicely. Just compare your tremolo technique with it and you should notice right away
>>
>>70740207
Scale.
>>
>>70740076
My buddy got me into Jazz picks, so I use those and most often the TORTEX Jazz III, so much so that I've actually beveled it.
The John Petrucci pick is pretty kick as too, same friend gave me one, and I really dig it.
>>
>>70740207
>actual neck length

Yes. The scale length. 24.7 is short/gibson, 25.5 is standard, 27-30 is baritone, though short scale basses run at 30 usually. 34 is the more common bass scale, with a few 35 inch ones made here and there.

What's the material of those tortex picks anyway?

I'm not mental about my picks, I've got a lot of different ones (mostly dunlop tortex)

But today I was gigging and took the pick of a friend that looks like mine without realizing it.
I felt like someone killed my neck pickup.
And had trouble finding this little piece of shit culprit.

What is it with strings that wear out?

I just replaced my strings and they just sound so sexy, I can't pin point what it is but they lose it after a while

They become dull and worn out, nothing like a new bright set of strings to bring your guitar back to life.

Use elixir nanoweb coated strings. I can fly all around the guitar neck pretty quickly and they last longer. Thought it was a meme but they are good strings.

It's just some special kind of plastic that's trying to mimic tortoise shell. To me the best thing about it is how firm and smooth the edges are when they wear down. Regular nylon picks erode like shit, Tortex always has a nice edge.

Just strum 16th notes (4 strums per beat) and accent (strum harder) the first of the 4 strums, so your strums will sound like ONE e and a TWO e and a THREE e and a FOUR e and a.

Just alternate strumming down and up. DOWN up down up DOWN up down up DOWN up down up DOWN up down up, etc.

Yes. It sounds different. Not better or worse. The octave in say a tone machine isn't adjustable. It's there, and how much it's there is dependant on components in the circuit and the signal going in. With an octave fuzz you might hear more octave if you pick harder, or if you're playing in a certain frequency range it might be more distinguishable, but it's more dynamic and a lot less clean. Fuzz with an octave pedal will allow you to vary the ammount of the octave you hear, and it'll be constant throughout dynamics and range.

I normally use a big muff clone i made with an ehx pitchfork. Its pretty cool. Id a/b it with a tone machine i built but i shipped to my buddy across the country as a christmas gift. There was a noticeable difference between the foxx's octave and the foxx with an octave. I prefer using seperate units, being able to very it or play clean with an octave is nice.

>>70743234
cool will do. It's weird of them not to sell necks like this, they must think it will cheapen their brand and sell less guitars but I think they would easily double their profits by making necks a regular item.

I would never drop the $4g or whatever it is on a EGC guitar but I could easily do that neck.
>>
>>70743218
An attenuator will change the sound. Youll also probably have more clean headroom with an ac30. Im sure it will sound fine though.

One of the big things people overlook with amps, aside from pushing the pre amp and the tubes is the speaker. A big part of guitar sound is a speaker thats moving vigourously because of a large current, which you wont get unless youre playing pretty loudly.

But it should sound fine.

However, when checking the serial number I found out it was manufactured in 2007, on Un Son Korean factory.

To me the neck seems perfectly straight and intontation is more or less in condition. However I'm worried about the bridge. When comparing to photos of other VMNTs the bridge seems always be connected really low but mine it seems to be pretty high tiny screws in the middle. Need to take actual photo.

So, I should probaly take it to luthier/tech?

I own an Ibanez RG2EX2 thats all white with black hardware and trim. I like the white, but the black not so much. I've decided to slowly over time make small adjustments cosmetically, mainly replacing a lot of the black metal with wood where i can, (knobs, ect.) and gold where i cant (bridge, ect.)

Ive found a place that makes bad ass wooden knobs already, but i just found this place that makes wooden pickup covers. Does anyone know anything about using wood for a pickup cover? Like does it affect tone or anything? Id like to use roeswood to match the fretboard

I feel like any difference in tone is perceived, generally. I feel like I play differently on hollow and semi-hollow guitars only because I approach them differently to get the sound I want.

Alex Lifeson plays a 335 right after a Floyd Rose Les Paul and makes them sound the same.

The real tone-maker is your amp and gain levels at the end of the day.

This is what i did with mine. I wasnt too crazy about plain white, so i got pearloid and got matching knobs. I wanted something not so common, but not something that stood out so much that it's tacky.

You can get plain white though, nothing wrong with replacing something worn out with something identical.

Like the other anon said, gold might be nice. Gold and white with maple look nice, gold and red would look okay, but youd have to change the bridge and tuners too or it would look out of place. I believe they sell gold pickup covers as well.

What strings do you guys use and why?

I've tried every major brand at this point and I'm just not sure which ones have the best response and tone dynamics. I bought a pack of GHS Boomers earlier because I haven't tried those out in probably 6 or 7 years at least. Right now I have DR's on my guitar and they're okay.

Wood type doesn't matter anywhere other than where the palm is touching the neck and that doesn't matter either if you're just going to put a finish all the whole thing.

Fret wood definitely doesn't matter since you're going to be touching the strings not the fretboard

What's the best, (in your >opinion) lower-price amp?

Here's the best answer you're going to get.

Solid State:
Peavey Envoy 110
Peavey Bandit 112
Roland Cube (any version that doesn't have modeling amps built in)

Tube Amps:
Marshall DSL5C
Blackstar HT-1
Vox AC4
Fender Blues Deluxe

What's the head with the custom shell? Looks like a fun rig, anon. What kind of stuff do you play? Also jelly of the CAR Strat

Thought the ES was a Trini Lopez for a sec. Disappointed anon. Nice Nashville tele though

I've been playing for 12 years and don't give a shit about tone woods.
I'm talking purely aesthetics. Rosewood looks great, and so does maple. But maple without inlays looks really nice.

I'm for sure getting a flamed maple top because that's objectively the best top aesthetically.

Ive played many different amps over the years including all of those. The new model Peavey amps have the best clean channel you're going to get under $1000. I don't even have one right now so don't think I'm shilling. I've got the Blackstar I mentioned.
>>
>>70751596
They're alright though, especially for that price point.
>>
>>70751394
10-52 skinny top heavy bottom strings.
I've been using them for years for no reason other than I like the feel of 10s.
That's it, I just like them and won't fix what ain't broken.
>>
is it true that the tone of the tele is from the pickup cover?
>>
Best bedroom amp for $200?

I mostly play blues/dad rock/country/blues rock
>>
>>70751706

You can find some of them used on there. Just put blackstar ht1 in the search bar. They're out of stock on new ones.

Nigga you ain't gigging for $130 unless you get some bullshit FM212 or something.
