Who is the most honest musician out there? One that lives and breathes their music.
This nigga likes to pretend he's never happy in his music, but there are times where he's quite obviously happy.
Mark Kozelek
me
John Frusciante

>"dream"
>>70723337
This dude is a genius but super humble, honest and chill.
>>70726862
I get a lot of honesty from The Smith Street Band and Camp Cope

Jonathan Davis is up there desu
Annie Clark/St. Vincent obviously. She'd NEVER lie!
>>70723337
this post is stupid.
Take comedians for example, it's like saying they're dishonest artists for being depressed fucks, but overwhelmingly that's the case.
>>70728598
Dang forgot about Phil.
Makes me want to go out and live in Alaska and wither away in the woods
>>70723337
None compare to this guy, imo.
>>70729170
agree
everyone's bound to be happy at least sometimes. A good amount of music is sad and I don't think that necessarily means the artist is saying they are never happy, unless they actually say that.

I never thought about it, but any grown ass man that looks like a ugly tranny, plays a ukulele unironically, and sings in a high falsetto truly gives no fucks what anyone thinks. I am going to have to check that nigga out some more.

>*pretends to cry on a studio recording*
>>70729428
This.
Also, Leonard Cohen, sometimes? I'm not super familiar with his work but he seems very genuine to me.
In my opinion, genuine emotion and honesty are the most important things to writing good music.
>>70723337
Everyone is happy sometimes.
What if he can only write songs when he's sad? Maybe when he's happy he goes out with his m8's and tries to have fun, maybe he can't even write a song when he's happy, maybe he has no desire to write songs when he's happy.
I'd say Bowie too. He was always reinventing himself.
>>70729376
damn, you beat me to it anon
>tfw Come On Up to the House harmonica solo
Thinking of Bowie, I also have a great respect for Bauhaus. Heres a pretty neat video using 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' as the visuals.

Indeed, he was a cool motherfucker all his life. Never lost it.
>>70729570
I love how it doesn't show any of 90's Bowie lol
>>70729749
Bottom middle and the one just to left of it is 90's Bowie.
hands down MC Ride
>>70729917
I mean red hair, goatee, piercing Bowie
Jeffy R
No question.
I can understand opposition to this, because he pretty much became the poster child for this kind of approach to music making.
But really, there's nobody who has encapsulated it better throughout his or her career. Blood on the Tracks still kind of hurts to listen to, in the best way.
>>70730573
That was probably only 1 year of his life.
......Zappa?
>"I don't know why I wanted to do these things, other than my desire to escape from Small Town, U.S.A., to dismiss the boundaries, to explore. It isn't a bad place where I grew up, but there was nothing going on but the cornfields. My life experience came from watching movies, watching TV and reading books and looking at magazines. And when your culture comes from watching TV every day, you're bombarded with images of things that seem cool, places that seem interesting, people who have jobs and careers and opportunities. None of that happened where I was. You're almost taught to realize it's not for you."

With that look, that's a year too long
>>70723362
Yep
Jonathan Richman stands out like a sore thumb to me.
I think its hilarious to imagine him going to early velvet shows, loving them, and going back to Massachusetts and adding his goofy wholesome vibe to it.
