copy and pasting this into the new thread.

Can anyone help me? I'm getting clocking issues with my focusrite solo 2nd gen. Basically my devices will randomly turn staticy until I go to the properties of the focusrite device and reset the format (change from 2 channel 24 bit, to 2 channel 16 bit and then back to 24 bit).

My build: http://pastebin.com/wkPtJm80 (embed)

Only reason I'm posting on /gg/ is because I have gotten help before with advice for my setup.

My setup: Desktop>Focusrite>286s>Sm7b
So far it sounds some anons have said it might be a usb issues, in which case, I'll try getting a Anker 10-Port 60W USB 3.0 Hub.

Appreciate the help guys

So what are you gents working on right now?
>>
>>70714480
I like it a lot. Practice it a little bit more. The rhythm is off sometimes imo (or maybe just record it again). You have a sound cloud or band camp?

Thanks man, and yeah I don't think that was the best recording of it it's something that I started working on a while ago and just came back to

>>
>>70714480
Get your guitar in tune.
Smooth out that bass rhythmically.
Needs better balance between treble and bass voices, as well as better control of volume, some notes in the melody are very quiet while others are very loud and it happens every couple notes so I doubt it's intentional.

An exercise to work one volume balance and control of fingers may be done by setting a metronome to 4/4 time and playing an open string(preferably the B or G string) on each beat with a different finger(p, i, m, and a). Accent Beat 1 each time, once you've done that with one finger for a while then switch the finger that plays on beat one and repeat.
This creates control over your right hand.
>>
>>70714543
I was hesitant about clicking that link, nice url.
>>
>>70714548
I'll try that exercise, thanks
>>
>>70714662
The reason to use an inner string is to give yourself a space to work within, if you practice on an outer string you may be giving yourself more room than available when moving inward.
>>
I recently started fingerstyle guitar (play blues stuff usually so somewhat new to me). How does this sound and what do I need to work on? Timing is a bit off I think

>what are you gents working on right now
Hideous sounding diminished arpeggios that no one should ever play.
Also my tubes are apparently dying. Or my amp decided to spontaneously put on an LPF and turn the volume down in the middle of my recording so it wouldn't have to suffer my wank

The slower 16th note section at the beginning sounds a bit like a cyriak video. Never bothered to think about the music itself because the videos were mildly disturbing in the first place.

>Also my tubes are apparently dying.

Have you observed the tubes while the unit is powered on?
>>
>>70714986
They all appear a healthy orange.

That sound dampening only lasted for 10 seconds in the clip, and it did the same thing a couple times earlier today, but it sounds fine now. To be honest I don't know shit about tubes or tube diagnostics, I just blame the tubes when I don't know what else it could be. The only other thing I know that could cause that sound drop is a dying active pickup battery or dying pedal batteries, but I'm using passive pickups and getting pedal power from an adapter plugged into the wall. Could a slightly fucky speaker cable cause that?
>>
>>70715148
>Could a slightly fucky speaker cable cause that?

Indeed. I would give the tubes a pressing amd make sure theyre all seated, and maybe tap on/jiggle the cables a bit to see if it will make any buzz or volume drop.

There line up for 2017 seems a step in the right direction, it depends if you buy it because you like how it plays or if you're just sucking Rob's knob.
>>
>>70715723
They're not terrible instruments by any means, it's just that the world didn't need another reimagining of a Strat, LP, Tele and Explorer - he's not bringing anything new to the table with his designs.

The biggest problem with the whole enterprise isn't even Rob himself, even though he's becoming more of a tool all the time, It's the teenage fanboys that seem to be infesting all corners of the web these days.

Not sure if there are cheaper schecter guitars but those have 24 frets.

I agree with other poster, there are good cheaper Jackson's with the frets you want.
>>
>>70716431
There's a local guy that uses them, loves them. He's been playing and touring 20 years, he told me he sold most of his other guitars because he never uses them. Like everything though, try before you buy.
>>
>>70716202

The DK2M is MiM and the RR3 is MiJ, in terms of playability they are both exceptional but the finish on the MiM is marginally better. I can empathize on the EMGs, stick a JB and 59 in it and you're good to go.

>>70716803
Congrats, what are you getting exactly?
>>
>>70716927
As blasphemous as some may find it in the world of Jackson guitars, I can not stand the RR3's and RR5's with the Randy Rhoads signature style pinstripe finish, a dark solid colour is where its at.

Hey Faggots,
My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day looking at stupid ass pictures of guitars. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any pussy? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to pictures of keith richards.
Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I graduated from berkley, andbI have toured the world 1000 times as a rock legend. What sports do you play, other than blooze and “jack off to naked drawn Japanese people”? I also get free gear, and have a banging hot girlfriend (She just blew me; Shit was SO cash). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.

So I've got a couple of stupid questions, because why not.

Does everyone follow the same basics when learning guitar from the start? Or could you skip learning something like fingerpicking if you're looking towards playing metal, for example. I'm looking at the Justinguitar tutorials right now, and I'm doing the basic stuff, but it seems like I could skip some of the more advanced stuff that I don't think I'll be needing. Or is that faulty thinking that's just going to fuck me over in the long run?

Also, something I've noticed while watching tons of shred guitarists is that they've all got really long and thin fingers, which I'd imagine does wonders for speed and dexterity. I don't have hands like that, am I fucked from the start and destined to never be able to shred?

Learn whatever you think will apply to what you want to play dude. No guitarist is a master of everything. If you're going to learn something you'll never use, it'll be a waste of your own time learning it.
>>
>>70718808
Here is my tl;dr, it's just my opinion so whatever

1/learn all the basic chords and at least learning where the root is
Use this step to actually work on rythm, seriously
2/barre chords and power chords
continue to work on rythm, continue to learn to spot root note and the 5 (easy thanks to power chords)

3/ learn and master your fretboard and impro by learning scales:
major minor scales
pentatonic scales
Blues scales
you have to actually learn every modes/positions

Identify what each notes represents on each scales

4/learn triads and whatever you want
at this point you should know what you want and need to do

Why triads are a separate thing
He will already learn them when he learns chord theory and scales (and consequently intervals which is what triads are)

Because I forgot to put them before
and well my wall of text is already hard to read I guess
And triads (not just the basic ones on the highest strings) can be used as an advanced stuff to expand impro and fretboard knowledge
and to start learning on different chords voicing

How precise should i be on Tempo?

I can play to the metronome, i can keep the beat more or less.
I can overdub multiple guitar tracks without sounding lame. But when i close look at the timeline on the daw i see the strummings and notes are all the way before and ahead the beat, its not precise. Is it bad, is it perceptible, does it affect the impact of the sound?

>>70718917
That looks like a solid lesson plan, and I think that Justin has something similar going on in his tutorials, but like I said, I'm not entirely certain on the necessity of all that knowledge. For the record, I'm not looking to be a professional musician or even someone who writes music, I just want to be able to play my favorite tunes by myself or with some buddies. And excuse my ignorance of music theory, but is something like a blues scale really applicable to something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8MdBHQt7lc

That's an example of the kind of music I want to someday achieve. Once again, sorry if I seem straight up retarded, I've never had any music theory taught to me, not even in highschool.

What is the best place on the internet to ask for analog-sim plugins?
I'm liking the Slate D plugins a lot and i want to find other brands' plugins. Are there individual plugins, like a plugin thats only compressor, or EQ plugin, that actually emulates (or tries to emulate) the effects these analog equipments do on the sound like saturating and other stuff?

>>70719083
What anon pointed is just basic theory to be a decent guitarist

But if you really just want to play songs you will not need more than chords and their names
But if you want to learn them by yourself these theory would help you a lot. And you will be able to improvise and it is fun

The first slow lick at 1:20 is blues scale and the fast stuff is also pentatonic/natural minor

But man, what are you saying is hard about the Blues scale? I guess youre refering to that traditional shape, what is fucking hard about that? You're lazy about that? You just learn the simple shape and can play it over chords or song's key

Well I did not open your link but it does not matter because:
Blues scales is just one way to "enrich" the pentatonic scale. The "normal" blues scale just add one note.
And this pentatonic scale is mandatory.

Well if you still want to know whether you need to follow my plan/justin's plan or another,

Try to answer this:

Do you want to just reproduce something that someone's playing?
Answer is yes: well, just use youtube and tabs, and be a copycat. You don't really need knowledge for that. You can have fun.

Do you want to play & create whatever song and/or impro on whatever comes to you?
Do you want to gig with people?
Then yes, you need all this knowledge

Both options are possible
and actually you can do both.
>>

The blood port's under the pickups. Gotta unscrew the cover plates and cover the copper wiring in a healthy dose. I also recommend candles made from human tallow. If you can't your hands on homemade candles, storebought is fine.
>>
so, ahould you really always wash your hands before playing or doe it add to the sound if you're a lil dirty?

if you wash your fingertips will soften and you will lose calluses
if you play with dirty hands all youll get is to rust your strings quicker. maybe the hand will slip better on the neck and stirngs
>>
>>70719183
>But man, what are you saying is hard about the Blues scale?
Well, it's called the blues scale, and I assume it's used for playing blues. So I was wondering how useful it could be for other things. Like I said, I basically have no knowledge of music theory, and I'm starting to get a strong sense that I should go into that, at least for the basics.

>>70719200
>Do you want to just reproduce something that someone's playing?
Yes. That is my current long-term goal. I wanted to pick up a hobby to spend my free time on, and playing some tunes I love on the guitar seemed like a decent option. At least for self amusement.

>Do you want to play & create whatever song and/or impro on whatever comes to you?
>Do you want to gig with people?
I'm not really a creative person, nor am I looking to be in a band, so no, at least for now.

Thanks for the answers, by the way. I'm getting some good insights right now, and thinking about things I didn't even know before. Still wish someone could address the question about the hands.

>>
>>70721641
locking tuners are a meme for retards, learn to string your guitar properly and string slippage won't be an issue
>>
>>70721641
Locking tunres generally have a wheel on the back that moves a pin up through the post of the tuner to grip the string. They make it a thousand times easier to change strings as you don't need to put any windings on the post. And the tuning is more stable as those windings on the post can move about on other tuners.

I've got a couple of guitars with Fender and Sperzel locking tuners, I think they're one of the few upgrades that are really worth the extra money.

>>
>>70721861
>I've only been doing it wrong for 40+ years.
hence the reason you feel the need for locking tuners dad
>>
>>70721641
They're expensive because the good ones are manufactured very precisely. Otherwise you can run into issues like them not holding tuning, slipping when you turn them, feeling and moving inconsistently and some others I probably haven't thought of.

You can get on just fine with cheaper tuners, but if you're a stickler for tuning it's worth shelling out for some nicer ones.

Locking tuners just make string changes faster as far as I know. I don't think I've ever seen them on an acoustic but I don't see any reason why they won't work on it.

>>
>>70721794
I guess you never gig with the temperature in the bar/room being shitty, you use the vibrato and hate having to tune between each song.

Changing nut and tuners is the easy & cheap way to achieve stability.
And locking tuners are a safe choice. Furthermore it's convenient if you use lots of strings sets
>>

Bass drum sounds like the drummer thought it was a good idea but it doesn't sit well in the mix and it's too far forward. Guitars are too loud too, that's a guitarist's mix.

And the song is fucking awful

What the fuck. Why is there not a scan of justin's gay books on pratebay?
How is an autistic neet like me supposed to live the neet life and learn guitar if I have to pay for guitar instruction

Are there any good text based alternatives to justinguitar's videos?
>>
>>70722161
Guthrie Govan's book is pretty good.
>>
>>70722085
It's not ALL about stringing it properly.

Tuner quality is really important.
And, yes, you don't need to absolutely buy a locking tuner to have a quality tuner.
My electroacoustic stays in tune properly.

But when you buy a cheap guitar with trash tuners and need to upgrade it properly, there's no reason not to buy a good locking tuner nowadays.
As I said previously, it's the safe and convenient choice.

If you still don't understand, then you're just being an idiot (on purpose or for real, who cares)

Buy a replacement saddle. Or a new bridge.

Actually it was at the other extreme side. It was at its limit and the intonation was still sharp. I even turned the saddle the other way to get it there.
The only way to get the intonation lower would be to lower the bridge but i dont want a low action

That's what you are saying and you are an idiot with your absolute truth way of speaking.

Even if you've never seen a shitty tuner,
Have you never heard of old tuners not handling the strings' tension properly anymore?

>>70723630
Well here is a solid trick
Continue to practice it, but until you get it properly with the desired position, you can use another way to form your chords...

G barre chord to B Barre chord
G granddaddy chord with different fingering possibilities
B open chord...
>>
>>70723141
how does lowering the bridge change the intonation? you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about. you've wrecked your guitar by ham-fisted attempts to turn a screw beyond its range, now shut up, fuck off, buy a new bridge and don't adjust it with a fucking spoon and the brute force of a stampeding fucking rhino. you fucking cock
>>
>>70723784
>how does changing the distance from the saddle to the nut change intonation
>>
>>70723630
>>70723772

Oh and for barre chords, there is different fingering possibilities that can make easier.

Sometimes I form my barre chords with double barre. Or if it's not convenient I use more fingers.
When I need it, I use my thumb Hendrix style to free my other fingers.

Hope this helps even with my poor English.

you intonate by eliminating the discrepancies between the planned scale lenght and your actual, incorrect scale lenght.
it's just geometry, I don't see what's so hard to get about that, if you move the saddle, whether it is up/down, forwards/backwards, or even left/right, you're changing the scale lenght
same could happen with the nut but no setups are done there
>>
>>70721384
Fuck. I fucking give up. The rest of family came home from work and i'm even less focused.
