you have to cultivate an air of mystery around it, like it's found footage and stuff.

In order to do that you have to AVOID attaching yourself to your music and you have to AVOID making people pay for your music (even if they're youtube advertisers). Just post it in the bandcamp/soundcloud threads. Don't post it on youtube. Don't tell us "hey my name is so and so". Nobody cares about you. Half of vaporwave's appeal is the illusion that it's a weird piece of music that drifted through the internet from the early 90s and that nobody knows exactly who made it.

Vaporwave isn't just a sound, it's a myth about some kind of uncanny relic/document from an ideal version of the future of the past. Something you'd find on an old geocities page, in a box of cassette tapes in your attic, or in some obscure Japanese compilation from 20 years ago. I'm not asking you to pretend that it's the case but at any rate you should avoid discussing it like it's your hip-hop mixtape and like we should care about you as an artist.

If you NEED FEEDBACK then post a sample of it on clyp.it ANONYMOUSLY and once you've perfected it, then share it through the preferred channels without being insistent or underhanded about it.

Also technically the original that was sampled is mysterious, then the added deepness makes it spookier. You don't have to do any of that, but I guess it is preferred
