Is this the highest non-best new music album of the BNM era?
>>
>it's an american thinks grime is hip-hop episode
>>
Not surprised at all that the currently most hyped hiphop group for bnm. Not to say it's a bad album either
>>
>>70712913
Panthers have a weird series of scores.

0.7
7.9 BNM
6.2
6.0

Mos Def also got 8.0 BNM for The Ecstatic
>>
>>70712946
You sure that isn't pre-BNM?

Anyways, I recall there have been a few metal albums to get 8.4 and no BNM the last couple of years

BNM started in 03, right? Was Think Tank released right before or something?

Modern grime has become very influenced by trap rap.

I noticed they've retroactively changed the tagging earlier releases like Dizzee's Boy in Da Corner and even instrumental Grime releases, from "Electronic" to "Rap"
>>
man, saw the rare 8.1 BNM and came to drop some rare p4k history nuggets but y'all beat me to it

if p4k had their current taste in 2010, would flockaveli have gotten like a 9.6 or something LMAO

kek
>>
>>70713097
That's fucking retarded. Early grime is very decidedly not hip-hop. Both it and hip-hop came out of Jamaican dancehall MCing and soundystem culture, but in very different ways and used to very different ends.
>>
can we get more p4k history every night?
>>
Look at their treatment of Oasis

>original 1997 Be Here Now review: 7.9
>early 1998 revision: 5.9
>1998 release of compilation of b-sides from first two albums: 3.7
>2014 and 2015 re-release of same b-sides along with first two studio albums: 8.8 BNR, 8.9 BNR
>2016 re-release of Be Here Now: 5.2
>>
I'm fine if they decide that BNM should be a little more flexible tbqh. I remember there were a small handful of times their old sister site The Dissolve (rip) gave their BNM equivalent to movies they gave less than 4/5 stars. Sometimes something isn't "amazing" but notable and unique enough to deserve a "must listen to" tag. I guess TMT kinda does that with the Eureka tag right?
>>
>>70713067
>being this autistic
I doubt they were on top of their shit then. They were just starting out. They weren't expecting some pedant on an origami board to be scrutinizing them.
>>
>>70713396
p4k peaked in influence when they "broke" arcade fire and they've been desperately trying to recreate that for 13 years. that's all the history you need to know
>>
>>70713539
this
>>
>>70713539
them forcing LCD Soundsystem as a generation-defining act is disgusting, and their retrospective article after the announcement of his first retirement was just as much self-serving and self-congratulatory as it was about the music
>>
Godfather bangs harder than Culture.
>>
>>70713723
This right here
>>
>>70713654
i like LCD a lot and james has always seemed like a really good guy, but i've always thought it was shitty how there's a group of ryan's friends that p4k artificially pushes (which includes james murphy). deerhunter and diiv come to mind, bradford and zcs party with ryan and suddenly have constant coverage
>>
>>70713498
The only one I can remember was Interstellar getting that Essential Viewing tag, and the reviewer gave it a 3.5/5

RIP Dissolve
>>
Culture was some trash man, only decent track was tshirts

Bad and boujee was played out far before release
>>
>>70713994
There was another one, The Wolfpack, that was also 3 1/2. Those might have been the only two. But I liked how there was some flexibility with it even if it was rarely used.
>>
>>70713994
It seems like pitchfork is starting to cover stuff beyond just music. The example that jumps to mind is posting every fucking update of the new Twin Peaks series. Zero relevance to their identity as a music reviewing site, but could be indicative of a sift to culture as a whole.
>>
>>70714234
Huh, Indie musicians have talked about TP constantly over the past couple decades as an inspiration. The new series has a cast of over 200 with tons of known musicans. Why wouldn't they cover that?
>>
>>70714234
Someone asked that in a Reddit AMA with the editors not too long ago and they said they don't have any plans to expand to general pop culture as of now. They've covered David Lynch's music for a long time so I think that's the connection to Twin Peaks (just like they cover stories about Atlanta because of Donald Glover). The Stranger Things coverage makes less sense though.

I'm guessing the news articles are what keep the lights on so they're broadening the scope.
>>
>>70714408
One article was about action figures. Why would they cover that?
>>
>>70714408

None of these are about either the music of Twin Peaks or about any of the musicians that are in the show.

Who cares? Its still prime related content for their main reader base.
>>
>>70714561
maybe it's SEO so that the articles they link to in those news stories get a higher search rank
