The fusion era of the 80s 90s (Stern, Hugh etc.) While wonderful took on a sound that represented a modern breezy attitude while at the same time letting go of the repetition of standards. hardjazz was the beginning of the end when jazz guys stopped making music and turned it into a competition in the late 50s/early 60s
