>>

not really, but it definitely helps to know at least the basics, like scales, chords, timing and other shit
>>
>>70668817
doesnt hurt to learn but if you are a total noob most daws have plenty of tools to keep you in scale.

Does anyone else post their WIPs here, slightly hoping that some big name like Trent Reznor or Deadmau5 is lurking and listening to clyps, and that maybe they can hear the potential genius producer in you and invite you to be a producer or contributor on their team?

not bad, son. a lot of your tracks need highpassing though, like your hats and maybe your other synthy sounds.

>>70669188
this sort of reminds me of some clams casino type stuff, I enjoy. a fatter thicker slightly longer kick would work better I think.
>>
well this is retarded

I'm having a weird problem in unAbleton. When I work with my gear (I sequence a synth from ableton), when I go to render the audio, it comes out silent. Empty. I have already made sure everythig is correct (master, not highlighting any clips, etc) and it still comes fucking empty

I tried saving a different project that had an audio clip with no MIDI channels, and it saved fine

What the fuck is going on?

anyone else use Logic pro X?

My issue is I'm trying to join some tracks together so I can export them to a producer. The problem is, some of my audio tracks dont start at the beginning of the song. they start somewhere is the middle.

I'd prefer to have all of my tracks start from the beginning of the song so the producer can just drop all the tracks right into his DAW and the song is already pieced together just like that.

But in logic, you can't just extend an audio track. Is there any trick around this?
>>
>>70669868
You mean like bouncing stems? When you hit bounce just set the render start value to measure 1, beat 1, etc. like pic related. It'll render all the empty space as silence, if you have the track soloed

I want to start making music with bass, synth and percussion, all simulated/digital of course.

download one of the major DAWs, this way you can easily find resources and help online, and if you don't have any musical training, start to learn the basics, then you get into the actual production of the music, which is mostly reading up and playing with the technical parts of your DAW, this is best way to get into it, I feel, but you can learn what you want in any order I guess.

>>70670441
learn how to produce in general, then you'll know how to do pretty much anything

>>70670570
you need a DAW, you can do anything in a DAW, after that you're gonna need synths and plugins to make your dreams become real. go on equipboard and look at what your favorite pro's are using, tons of resources there

>>70670745
the Image-Line manuals and guides on their website are amazing actually

>>70671969
what's up with the kick? replace the percussion with some actual drums, mix could use a lot of work, the track is way too quiet. it sounds like a great idea but produced in a very amateur-manner.
also, it's way too long with little variation throughout. quite a few cool ideas, drum programming at the end is pretty cool too

>>70672015
get a DAW, get instruments and plugins, experiment around, you need to spend a lot of time on it experimenting around, go through tutorials and read through the synth manuals, also equipboard is a great place to get resources

>>70672027
sounds very amateur, kinda like you got a few presets and threw them over a 140bpm drum loop, you need to learn the art of foley and how to make a drop sound fuller, that's the most important part, also variation and details is key.

>>70672773
boiiiii, this is great, I think the drums could be a bit louder in the mix, but your atmo and all the foley and shit going on is amazing, good work my man. this is so relaxing, perfect for something like minecraft.

>>70673183
ayyyyy this is pretty fuckin good desu, fuckin love it now when the chords entered. reminds me of Vinter in Vegas

>>70673527
rutracker?

>>70674890
it's way too short but it has potential, mix needs work tho ofc

>>70675143
this is bad, that pad is way too loud and it's tearing my eardrums apart, the kick is lost in the loudness of the pad. you just started producing right?
>>
>>70675798
I think the intro is way too long, drums are very nice, this is way too hectic tho, mix is extremely muddy, you need to structure it and fix your volume levels, some of your effects are way too louder than your instruments. drums are mad nice tho.
>>
>>70676197
In MPC there are sudden jumps and falls in volume while in clyp it stays somewhat constant.

I don't have the luxury of constantly uploading my track due to limited data.

it's the syncopation that really makes garage/house beats unique from each other.

In that beat it's really the rim shot/wood block sound that makes it. I don't think it has too much swing on it, if at all.

Just try to find the location on the grid and you can get that same groove

You will never be famous. Your dreams will never materialize. Here's why:

1. You don't innovate, no one likes someone who sounds the same as everyone else
2. Contrary to popular belief, there are "naturals", and there is literally no point competing against them. Most have been playing music since they were 5, and most can just sit down and make completely original work in half an hour(something that you can't do)
3.Even if you do become successful, are you ready to deal with the media, the long hours, the massive pressure on you to meet deadlines, etc?

Honestly just give up now and learn something more suitable like programming(you don't have to be a prodigy to make decent money from it, unlike music production).

I can handle the theory, but it seems quite different in production.

Hey guys so uh, I'm a pianist and I want to record my playing but I don't really have access to a decent grand piano so..

I do have an upright Yamaha U1, I'm satisfied with the sound of it but it isn't the sound of a nice grand that I can get with sample libraries. Also, my room isn't treated. Thus my question is, assuming I want the best piano sound possible, should I bother recording my U1, or just buy a keyboard and use piano libraries like Alicia's Keys?

>>70696406

>>70691341

If you're only using that send on a single track it makes no difference - either option would give you the same result (as long as setting the send knob 100% doesn't push too hot a signal to your effect) , but if you're using the same send with multiple tracks you'd need to use the send level controls to adjust effect levels for each track individually, since adjusting the return fader would change the effect level for all tracks using that send and that may not be what you want.

>>
>>70696984

>>
>>70697020
I know this feel. What I do is either add a bunch of drum tracks until I get bored or until there's simply too many drums, or I make multiple copies of the same midi track and either change each midi track slightly, or make one long midi track with a melody that playfully wanders up and down the scale. This usually leads to me having songs with basically the same loops playing the entire time though, and what you would usually want to do, to make an interesting song at least, is have different chords/melodies/instruments playing for each different section of your song

>>70692103

you have to think the music in your head before you put it down, otherwise you'll end up with formulaic stuff that usually doesn't work. you need a vision.

>>70696088

>>70696406
record MIDI with a good piano library from Kontakt and you're all set

>>70697020
why don't you start with adding some drums, something a bit trappy/halftime, sidechain those chords to the drums, fuck around, add more shit, this is pretty good desu

>>70697550
has potential, but the mix is all over the place, drum samples aren't good, arrangement sounds empty overall, you need to learn how to make a mix sound full. the melodies and chords are pretty cool tho, you have potential my man.
>>
>>70698006

What do you think about 'feel' when playing with a keyboard? I'm kinda particular about that and I want all the nuisances, stuff like hammer noise, key noise, damper pedal noise.. All of that to be replicated nicely.

>>70698597
>record MIDI with a good piano library from Kontakt and you're all set

What's the best grand piano library right now that I can
pirate easily?
I already have Addictive Key's Grand piano but it doesn't even have round robin apparently.
>>
>>70698856
Its not going to be perfect. Miking and mixing your piano would be another fucking headache. At least with midi notes you can change all kinds of aspects
>>
>>70698856
px 350m is what I got with weighted keys. the best approach is to just stop playing on your piano for a while and become accustomed to the action of your new keyboard if you go that way. You'll adjust in time
>>
>>70698909

Okay so eh, question..

Which one do you think would give me the best piano sound?

A total recording noob like me, with an upright piano in a totally boxy and untreated room, with a pair of AT2020, and a 2i2 as my audio interface

versus just buying a Roland A-88 and hooking it up to a decent piano library?
>>
>>70698971
I'd go with that roland. If you don't like your piano sound you can always adjust release times and reverb and there's a million decent vst pianos to choose from and compare.
>>
>>70698971
Does the roland have a pitch bend wheel and a mod wheel ? I wish my keyboard had a mod wheel because many vst's utilise that and its difficult to switch the pitch bend.
>>

not really sure where to take this, does it need a bassline? any ideas for some atmospheric sounds to make it sound fuller? feedback in general? ty
>>
>>70698999

I don't know about my piano sound, but I always feel that it lacks the depth that a grand piano has. Here's a very very very rough recording of it using my phone.

https://clyp.it/khkofwox

I was playing around with a recorded Bill Evans MIDI file with Addictive Keys, and I really liked the results, but I'm not sure how it would 'feel' with a keyboard, after all there's like only 7 or so velocity layer per key.

>>70699076
I'm not sure about that I don't think that is so important to me.
>>
I've been working on a few songs for a while without getting any kind of feedback through the process which could be kind of bad.
Eventually I'll put em together as an EP though. I'm at that stage where I just keep working on the tracks endlessly and I may be damaging their integrity.

Here's one of them, what do you guys think I need to improve?

https://clyp.it/qnmplgec
>>
>>70698856
try the grandeur, it's pretty neat

>>70699123
this has potential, I like the atmosphere a lot however it needs work, make the drums louder, they're pretty drowned in the mix and use different samples, get 'em pumping, I'm also hearing a real bassline on this, sidechained to the drums, a bit of interesting modulations and whatnot as well, you can develop this into a full on track.

>>70699535
sounds like the keys of the different samples are clashing with each other, honestly sounds a bit aimless and like you put a bunch of random samples together along with a drum beat.
>>
my gfs brother doesnt know shit about audio but tries using technical jargon i know he doesnt know because im actually employed and worked for years in media

No, you don't need a "preamp" to plug a guitar into a computer. Youre not wrong, but I wouldnt say you need a bus to plug a guitar into a computer

I know that a good way to check a mix is playing it in different sound systems/devices. Im the one who told you that

no, using canned beats that autonatically time for you while your comedically deadpan voice tries to keep up doesnt make you a musician either. I've spent years playing instruments as hobby and in school, i would hardly even qualify myself as one

while the JP8000 supersaw is responsible for the sound of trance, it does have a uniquely thin sound that kinda sounds dated today imo, especially for leads. That might be what you are after but also check out other synth from that era, might be more beefy.

>>70701019
this track is 10/10, minus the (like you said) highs, they're a bit ear piercing but you have a fuckin solid nice track here m8.

You have to actually record the audio of the synth track before you render. DAWs can't magically convert midi data into the audio coming from your hardware synth, it has to capture it on a specified audio track.

Are Roland SP-404SX's worth it? I'm considering buying it, I just about have the spare cash for it but don't want to drop like 300 to 400 dollars on something that's not worth it.

Are we on the topic of drum patterns we want to figure out?

Can someone map out the pattern on this death grip track like the dude above did

the part from ~1:05

only get the minilogue if you care about polyphony. it's a chord/pad machine, especially with the clicky envelope issue on short attacks/releases.

sounds like a fast d&b variation

How do I get the punchy eurobeat synth sound?

>>70702985
damn i might have to start listening to eurobeat after hearing this
>>
>>70701869

trippy, literally wtf, also /10, 10/10 ending tho

>>70702637
if you listen to it (you can slow it down) you can easily map it yourself, do it as an exercise, no point if others do it for you

>>70702985
punchy knocky kicks with no sub tail and ear piercing supersaws but honestly, try to get a bit better in production in general, then you'll know the answer yourself ;)
>>
>>70703486
>no point if others do it for you
you mean nobody here knows how to do it
>>
>>70703606
this
>>
>>70703606
no, I mean that we're all too lazy to write down an obvious drum pattern and it wouldn't do you any good :)
>>

honest thoughts on this?
>>
>>70703707
>obvious
but yet nobody here has the skill to do it. you can't make this you're personal music clip review blog

I'd like to see someone do it

i tried and shit it up, that's why i asked. it would be more time efficient to see what i messed, and it would also benefit you, if you believe in exercise. unless it's too simple for you

I agree this board had gotten too edgy. 1 guy taking over this entire thread and berating anyone who doesn't conform to his 3x3
>>
>>70703822
let it go bro. this isn't a helpful board at all. they won't listen until you talk Chvrches baselines then you'll get somewhere

I mean look at this post. the guy was just asking a simple question and got shit on? not productive at all. i'm good with old school hiphop samples if anyone needs help
>>
>>70703909
why is that? some frequencies hurt your ear?
>>
>>70703972
they were overpowering and took over the song as a gimmick
>>
>>70703991
I agree they lack variation

sounds fucking great.

might wanna try to drop the first note of every cycle an octave down, melody sounds a little 'too bouncy' as it is.
