(Yes I know I'm falling for bait)
They're not really that similar.

And either way her albums aren't THAT great.

Art Angels was an 8, I'll give you that.
Haflaxia was 7.
Visions and Geidi were 6.

She's alright, nothing special

Depends on who you ask. Some liken her more to Beethoven ( http://www.papermag.com/grimes-jimmy-fallon-flesh-without-blood-1778648997.html ) although - at least from a behind-the-scenes perspective - she's more of a Hector Berlioz type (seriously - go read up on his life leading up to his musical career: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hector_Berlioz#Student_life )

Of course. These songs are even more exciting that Mozart's pieces.

weak ratings desu. how many times did you listen to them? if you say once, i can't take your ratings seriously.
>>
>>70615819
>how many times did you listen to them?
Twice for Visions, 2 or 3 times for AA (Though I gave it an 8 on first listen)

Geidi I listened to once last week, and I'll give Haflaxia another listen soon.
>>
>>70615981
it's halfaxa, without an "i". the biggest issue is that visions rating. 6 is shamefully low for such a masterpiece. i guess it's just not for you.
>>
>>70616022
>6 is shamefully low for such a masterpiece. i guess it's just not for you.
As a non-grimes fan even I can say she's released a LOT better than that album, dude.
>>
>>70616055
visions is like marmite, you get it or you don't. oblivion and genesis aren't the only great songs from it.
>>
>>70613986
Why Mozart specifically? Similar structure and appeal?

Personally I've never been a fan of Grimes' music. Sounds like wailing over Clams Casino demo instrumentals.

I do respect her and think she's smart, though. She can market fairly shallow work that's fine, technically speaking, as something much deeper and more profound, and tons of people eat it, and her image, right the fuck up.

She has great business skills, and I think she's much more of an artist in that sense than in music.
>>
>>70617025
You just don't like her music. Why do you think her music is "fairly shallow work"? Just because it happened to be synthpop?
>>
>>70617074
>You just don't like her music

Right, I mentioned that I'm not a big fan.

No, it's not because it happens to be synthpop, but because she seems to hit a threshold where her dedication to her own stylistic conventions prevent her from breaking in directions that are more intimate or new for her.

Art Angels might have had some more upbeat sounds, and the lyrics on songs like Butterfly might have implied that she was going off in a new direction and not giving a fuck, but the musical formula was overall very similar to past projects.

To be fair I'm no big fan of Mozart either. It may have to do with the American trend of abusing the fuck out of public domain songs for shit commercials for rom-coms and Christmas movies, but pieces like Die Entführung aus dem Serail tend to feel like old hat to me on the first listen.

>No, it's not because it happens to be synthpop, but because she seems to hit a threshold where her dedication to her own stylistic conventions prevent her from breaking in directions that are more intimate or new for her.
Her music is as authentic as it gets. What would you expect form her music in order to enjoy it? What thing she does wrong according to you?
>>
>>70617396
Even though her music hasn't changed much, I think it started out much more authentic than it is now, when she was first digging out her niche.

But at this point the shit that was cool at the beginning: the almost apathetic-sounding, echoing vocals and sometimes-minimalist, sometimes low-cutoff mixing is reaching its limit. There's only so much that can be expressed with the same sound by the same person.

I just want her to vary it up a little, it's starting to feel like she's a slave to her formula because she knows it sells.

I'm not sure if you really listened to her music, but I find hard to believe you didn't notice those big ass beats and basslines. What is apathetic-sounding about Oblivion, Genesis, Realiti and Kill V. Maim? These songs are bursting with life.

>I just want her to vary it up a little, it's starting to feel like she's a slave to her formula because she knows it sells.
Again, did you even listen to her music? On the same album there is a classical-like intro, a country influenced tune, a harsh song with rapping in Taiwanese and actual screams, followed by an electropop banger. These are just the first 4 tracks of Art Angels. Isn't that diverse enough for you?

See this https://rbt.asia/mu/thread/S69177689#p69178330 too.

>Isn't that diverse enough for you?

Not in personality. Screaming and rapping in Taiwanese, but for what purpose? What does it say besides "look at me, I'm different from other acts"? What is Grimes' point in any of these songs? What emotion is she conveying beyond "Stacy, are you going to Coachella?"

Same underlying artistic aesthetic. Not gonna quibble with you on your imo thoroughly sophomoric impression of her music. Opinions are inherently subjective, after all.

>What emotion is she conveying beyond "Stacy, are you going to Coachella?"
>Attempting to have a serious discussion about music you've clearly barely listened to
I'm not necessarily judging you about it either. Just pointing out that you might want to educate yourself better first.

Prove it exactly what she ripped off from Bjork. Let's compare the supposed ripped off things side by side.

Fwiw Butterfly was purportedly the last song she wrote for the album, and is probably most indicative of where she's planning to go sonically next.
