Sumo is one of my top 10 bands, period.

Spanish/Latam Rock:
THE BAD: true, authentic, innovative bands are a small minority. Most bands just try to establish themselves as "the local version of".
THE GOOD: those few bands that make it through are just excellent and much more near to that old rocker narrative of the working class hero. SUPERB lyrics (poetical but classy, from sharp irony to acidic sincerity) you won't find in English (language barrier though to anglos). Great songs and twisted music, rougher but poppier.
What to look for, order from older to newer:
Spain: Paralisis Permanente, Derribos Arias, Los Punsetes, Pony Bravo.
Argentina: Sumo, Flema, El Otro Yo, Babasonicos, Intoxicados, Victoria Mil, Dios, El Mato a Un Policia Motorizado, Los Migues, La Ola Que Quería Ser Chau, Los Espíritus.
Uruguay: Exilio Psíquico, Hablan por la Espalda, Buenos Muchachos, La Hermana Menor, most of Pau o'Bianchi bands (3Pecados, Millonesdecasas, Alucinaciones en Familia).
Perú: the origins of South American rock. BEAUTIFUL syncopated surf music in form of "chicha" (Los Destellos, Los Mirlos, Los Beta 5, Los Diablos Rojos, Juaneco y su Combo). Some protopunk bands like Los Saicos if not for historic reasons.
Chile: I still don't lose hope, you can do it.
Mexico: how a country with so much people has NO SOUL when it comes to rock/middle class music?
Rest of Latinamerica: are you even trying?
It became derivative and went right downhill after the 70s.

Los Prisioneros is a great example of "The Local Version Of" and It's their best band
Almendra is a great record. In terms of Latin America, Brazillian stuff really stands out, some fucking incredible psychedelic music from there.
