too many albums not enough time
Start with The Singles Collection
the Singles collection has a lot of odd junk, though
I think starting with some recent compilations is fine:
Marshall Allen Presents Sun Ra and his Arkestra: In the Orbit of Ra
Gilles Peterson Presents Sun Ra and his Arkestra: To Those of Earth... And Other Worlds
The Gilles Peterson one mixes segments of different tracks together which any good purist will despise, but you get to sample 34 tracks in a little over 2 hours giving you a nice wide overview, so I'd say it's a good starting point and then diving into original albums for tracks you like

Not OP, but good recs
I really like bebop and some free jazz - I've really been enjoying Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman, as well as Art Blakey's circle with Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter, but Sun Ra's always been a bit difficult for me to get comfortable with and wrap my head around.
