The music that came out.
>>
>muh childhood memories
>>
I don't know anyone who misses whiny bands singing about how they're junkies and smell bad and their mom sucks.
>>
>>70569077
Yeah, grunge is the only genre from the 90s.
>>
>>70569119
Neither was hair metal, but it's the first thing 90% of people associate with the 80s.
>>
>>70569130
First thing I think of for the 80s is acid house and rave for the 90s. Must be a British thing.
>>
>>70569147
This isn't the first thing you associate with the 90s? :^)

OH GOD, FUCK YOU.

The 90s is actually my least favorite decade as far as rock music goes and that's my go-to genre. There's a few good bands but most of it is totally forgettable tripe. I don't understand the hard-on everyone has for 90s rock music.

Only things I like about the 90s are hip hop and Loveless.

>b-but Spiderland

It's trash.

I don't know who these people are, but based in my experience, a whole lot of people dislike that era of rock for killing off good-time fun bands like Kiss and AC/DC.

>a whole lot of people dislike that era of rock for killing off good-time fun bands like Kiss and AC/DC.
This is a reason to celebrate the 90s though
>>
>>70569233
That didn't make grunge better, it was just as much commercialized buttrock as AC/DC, albeit in a slightly different way.
>>
80s > 90s

90s aesthetic is especially shit in retrospect
>>
>>70569214
>killing Kiss and AC/DC..
The 90's killed Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, and Skid Row
I'd love to see the shift of Thrash metal and death metal as the 90's progressed, and what led to the big blow up of Nu-Metal in mainstream and then on to metalcore in the 00's.

Nas, Biggie, Tupac, Nirvana, Tool, Soundgarden, Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli), Botch, Deftones, Eminem, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World (glory days), Jay Z, Drive Like Jehu, At the Drive-In, Outkast, Weezer, etc.
>>
>>70569257
You realise the 90s wasn't only grunge right
>>
>>70569326
Oh, and Im not certain, but I think Radiohead released "Creep" in the 90s
>>
>>70569309
Kiss and AC/DC were still commercially relevant bands at the start of the 90s, in fact AC/DC had a big comeback with The Razor's Edge after several years of declining popularity. By 1993, all hair metal was extirpated from the airwaves, along with all pre-80s bands other than Aerosmith.
>>
>>70569050
nostalgia
>>
>>70569261
>90s aesthetic is especially shit in retrospect
Correct. Fashions and music got a lot blander in the 90s compared with the wild-looking 70s-80s fashions.
>>
>>70569326
Eminem is really a 2000s guy; his major label debut didn't happen until the very end of the 90s.
>>
>>70569261
>90s aesthetic is especially shit in retrospect
It hasn't really gone away though
>>
>>70569420
true. my bad.
>>
>>70569447
I don't see anyone today dressing like Friends-era Jennifer Aniston, do you?
>>
>>70569361
But even most 80s powerhouses like the Big 4 thrash bands lost it in the 90s. U2 were almost the only big-name 80s band to stay viable throughout the decade. While the early 90s still had a lot of lingering 80s influence, by the time Clinton was president, this was completely gone.

It extended to non-rock artists as well; Madonna wasn't really that relevant after 92 either and Michael Jackson was massively fucked by the child abuse allegations. Prince turned into a mental case in the 90s and lost all the goodwill he'd built up in the previous decade.
>>
>>70569361
Record labels ditched dadrock bands en masse and most of them ended up on budget labels like CMC. This meant that they couldn't get any radio play anymore outside of CRR, which of course wouldn't play any new shit they came out with.

The thing you have to remember is that 70s and even 60s artists still got airplay right to the end of the 80s; you could still hear the latest Beach Boys or Rolling Stones single on the radio. By 1993, this was no longer the case.
>>
>>70569050

It was the last decade when you could hear new bands that sounded really original.
The only genres that evolved a bit past 2000 are electronic/dance music and hip hop.
>>
why does everyone post that frog looking chick so much
>>

>It was the last decade when you could hear new bands that sounded really original.
this is b8
>>
Because it appeals to them.
>>
>>70569612
Hell, even a few 50s guys like Roy Orbison were still on the radio in the Reagan years (he was enjoying a big comeback when he died suddenly).
