These look nice but I don't know if I want to buy pickups that cost half the price of the guitar tho.

I have no idea what guitar to get. I want a semi hollow but I don't know what to look for that's not overly expensive. I'd also like a nice strat as I only have a Mexican one, but I don't really want to get one if I already have it.

AND

how do I know when I've learnt guitar?
>>
>>70549225
Not that guy, but I've got Fender custom shop pups in a $50 pawn shop squier.

With some good pots, locking tuners and a decked trem, it plays like a dream.
>>
>>70549273
Get an epiphone and call it a day. Speaking of epiphone I have a question dudes.

So I have an epiphone SG, and the bridge pickup doesn't have as much output as I'd like it to. Does anyone have any recommendations on a pickup that the cover will still fit over, yet has more output?

Really considering buying a new bass and I found a Fujigen J-Standard for $400 used. Good deal?
>>
>>70549371
That's basically what I had in mind for my Mexistrat yeah. I like the neck a lot since it's so different from my other super fast Jackson necks but the hardware is meh at best. Already blocked the trem and I plan to change pickups, tuners and paint it white, love them white guitars.

what do you call the technique he is doing on the back beat? Palm muting or Chucking?

Turns out stainless isn't really all that great. It still wears out, cost 2-3 times as much to replace as nickel silver, and you go through strings like a motherfucker.
>>
>>70550585
Of course it wears out, it's not magic, but it's still more durable.

Regardless, the prices should've gone down instead of up.

Schecter corsairs for $500ish are Great, and the model up Corsair custom (block inlays) has the Schecter Pasadena pickups which sound extremely great.

IF you are in a lower price range the Epiphones are actually good semihollows but the pick ups are over wired garbage. You need to replace them, again I'd recommend those schecter pasadena for blues smooth creamy clean or if you want to play loud/punk the dirty fingers from gibson. Has a great jangly bright yet clear dirty tone that is unmatched IMO.
>>
>>70550130
I'd ebay a Fender MiM or Schecter PT. Much much better guitars and used they drop down to the sub $300 range.
>>
>>70550723
nice, be sure to post a video of you shredding to some AX7 or other generic metal on youtube.
>>
>>70549350
I learned by copying my favorite dudes fingering and picking and learning all of his songs with his technique.

Theres a feature on youtube that wasn't there 12 years ago when I learned where you can watch videos at half speed.

If you are already musically trained you can usually figure out songs by watching and by ear if not you can use tabs.
>>
>>70549225
Honestly slowing upgrading the parts on that thing isn't a bad way to go. I think the new schecter pick ups based off their 80s stuff is a great way to go, good prices, and also warmoth makes fender replacement parts where you can get a new neck built to your preferred specs. Go try out different neck profiles at GC and replace the one on the squire down the road. New bridge and you'll have a really nice guitar.
>>
Sup /gg/, I have a semi-related question:
Can everybody sing? Or can some people just never learn it? I want to be able to sing but I think my voice sucks right now and I'm not sure if maybe there just is no foundation to build on

Anyone can learn to sing however most people's voices naturally sound boring same-y. I'd say 90% of people end up sounding like the starting line or bullet for my valentine or from first to last when they sing well.

So given my current schedule is fucked I have five hours between classes twice a week, how bad of an idea is it to leave an electric guitar in my car during the day to practice on during this gap? I have a soft case but temperatures would fluctuate to very fucking cold to warm and very fucking hot to cold and vice versa when I'm driving and turning the car off.
>>
>>70551816
If its a squire dont sweat it because its already junk but the wood will warp and the guitar will get fucked.

Well, fuck. What if it's cold as fuck/hot as fuck but constant? I have a hatch right now (sports car though, go figure) but I'm buying one with an actual trunk soon.
>>
anybody knows what kind of pedals do i need to get that arpeggiated delay sound?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jTlIKww0SM
>>
>>70552023
Digital delay, tap tempo, different note divisions so you dont have to stomp in double or quadruple time, play arpeggios
>>
>>70551924
Well thats not as bad. As the guitar changes temperature though the wood will warp and probably youll notice certain frets wont work anymore etc. I currently have a $600 guitar that warps at the 13th fret in winter temps in my appartment, aka, below 65 degrees and fret 11 and 12 on the b string are always a C note because of the warping.

I've seen guitars where it warps so bad whole strings go out.

In spring/summer/autumn though my guitar goes back to normal.

Humidity also matters.

So idk go for for it but be prepared to risk the guitar.

IMO it's too heavy of a string gauge; I'd use 11's or 12's, but that is pushing it for me. Also, use flats, not rounds; with flats you won't have the "string talk" of sliding your fingers around.

everything you do on your instrument involves theory. it's in the chords you play, their progressions, their notes, their pitches. literally everything you do has a term in musical theory.

It's more like 50-50, if what you usually play never changes keys then you don't have to worry about it, but I challenge you to play what "sounds good" over top of this shitty jazz progression I made in 20 minutes where the key changes every measure in the middle of it and include a Neapolitan 6th as one of the changes.
Use your 98:2 ratio and post the results.

I have one and I like it. The fret ends are kind of sharp on mine but it's not a deal breaker. The neck pick up was really weak Sounds great now after raising it. The bridge pickup is classic Tele sound.

After only playing a Strat the Tele is a nice change. Go for it my dude.

Or you know, they can learn how to change strings and do setups or solder pickups. Takes less time to learn how to do that then it does playing. Comes in really handy on the road when your bandmates les paul headstock breaks off from sitting on a stand.

That 3k pricetag buys you an exclusive self destruct feature.

Family photos, /gg/? You all have some cool stuff, post it up.

Doom LARPer reporting in. '64 SG Special, '69 Standard, '74 4001, '74 LPC, '75 Guild G212. Have a Washburn 335 knockoff, a FirstAct that I got to learn how to do fretwork on, and a six string Washburn D10 that didn't make it into the pic.

The Guild is a fun one- bought it before I had any concept of how to maintain guitars or notice structural issues, had no idea it basically needed to be rebuilt. Neck reset, refret, new nut and saddle of course, crack repairs. Had to slowly save up the cash topay for getting it from firewood to being a guitar again. Needs a restring currently, but sounds great once more. So that one and the others were all gotten cheap as fuck, thanks to the powers of the internet.

The 64 was 900 on Reverb, 69 was 1100 on some the site of some guitar shop. Took risks on both of them not having played them before buying, but they both set up fine and sound great. Neither are totally original, and both are kinda beat, hence the prices. Will admit I got really lucky on them. Love them to death though, they both play and sound fantastic

What are you working on with it? I like the korina Flying V-esque tailpiece.

The Black Epiphone feels better with the chunky neck, black and gold and wider V but it's electronics are shit and I'll swap them out eventually. The red one has a slimmer neck and slimmer body it's still alright comfortwise and the pickups are amazing.

> and the P/J
It's a cheap SX/Rondo but I love the 32" Scale and It's really useful to have a VOL-VOL-TONE setup on the knobs so I can turn one all the way down and get strictly P or Jazz Bass tones, when on full together it sounds like a clean bass humbucker. I use my bronco bass that's hidden behind the acoustic for punchier blues/punk stuff.

> the Acoustic
It's a 4x10, I wish it was a 1x15. Im trying to sell the Acoustic and my Ampeg PF-500 for a Fender Rumble 500w combo for easier transport

i have no idea what i want to put in it honestly. there's just so much. i like the passive EMG h4 and h4a, but they look like more of a pain in the ass to put in than anything else. i just want some high output stuff really. mostly in the bridge. the neck i want to keep nice and warm sounding.

this is a shitty picture, but something like this is what i want to do. im still up in the air about how i want to do it.
>>
>>70558271
Nice. I was curious about a Gibson faded series V at some point, but maybe the Epi is worth looking into. Can always replace some stuff, like you said.

And that is exactly what I am looking for, being able to blend the pickups on the P/J in and out. Sounds like a good thing to have.

Would the rumble 500 be easier to transport? Is it just because you don't need to keep track of the head in addition to the cab? I suppose it does seem rather easy

>>
>>70558528
Ah. Perhaps look into something like a Seymour Duncan Invader for the bridge, then? Or a newer DiMarzio Super Distortion. Duncan 59's are always good for the neck, that's what in my LPC, and it sounds great. Medium output, nice warm and full of mids/low mids/bass response.

But you should definitely try and do as fancy a job on the paint as you can. Seems like it would be worth the time and effort to try and get a mirror-like finish and all.

Finished this guy yesterday, finally moved up from strip and perfboard to an actual pcb. I was going to put it in a metal 4 square but it works so well its going on my gigging board, so its getting a hammond box.

Its a big muff, with some common mods thatll be cool to use once.... hi pass, low pass, tone bender alike, alternate diode clipping, tone bypass, and variable mid scoop. I used some lower gain transitors to make it closer to a russian muff. Thinking about getting another and doing the same mods, but making it like a rams head.

In a full mix, too much low end in the guitar will interfere with bass guitar and kick drum frequencies making everything sound muddy. A solo'd guitar sounds good with a decent amount of low end, but mixing is about finding the balance between everything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zS4-K33zko

I'm hearing different from standard tuning and power chords, but I'm a hell of an amateur player.

>mfw I still can't play any pinch harmonics
thanks for trying to help me /gg/ but I don't think I'll ever learn how to do it
>>
>>70561342
use your bridge pickup with the tone knob all the way up and lots of gain. it makes it easier
>>
>>70561372
I tried it just sounds stupid
>>

>i-i almost never tried composing before
>what one would compose like after 5 years?

I wrote this when I was 18 after like 4 or 5 years about 5 years ago. It's the GP .wav file since I don't feel like recording 5 instruments right now to show some 4channer. You need to learn how to mix in stuff and actually change the riff every once in a while or else it gets boring fast https://clyp.it/c052os2t
>>
>>70561342
try attacking the string either closer to the neck or further away from the neck depending on where the note you're fretting is. also try to angle your hands a ton of different ways, and make sure your picking hand is choked way up on the pick (so there's only a bit showing)

watch some videos on it, and put a lot of distortion on your amp and switch to the bridge pickup

if all of that doesn't work, realize that the only genres that use pinch harmonics are 80s cockrock and metal, both which are shit
>>
>>70561589
I just can't do it thanks anyway though
>>
>tfw poor
>tfw current dream piece is $450
>>
>>70561606
you can do it. it's like whistling, i can't fucking whistle, but i know if i put enough effort in i probably could

i remember trying to do pinch harmonics for weeks and weeks before it finally clicked (this was when i was like 14)
>>
>>70561124
in one listen only I'm getting Bb power chord E# power chord palm muted and the chorus is the same thing with an added G played open and allowed to ring and the high G is bent up almost less than a half step to give the eerie effect.

The bass at the end does

G-----------------------
D----10h12p10\8--8
A-------------------------6-8

Chorus with bending on the 8 repeated
E-----
B--8-
G--0-
D-----
A-----
E-----

Everything else:
G--8----10
D--8----10
A--6-----8

It's pretty simplistic, but it's still a good song. Obviously there's more to the track, but I'm not going to figure out the keyboard and too lazy to figure out the second guitar backing. Since when is complexity synonymous with how good a song is? Dylan and Cash are prolific, even though they average about 3 common chords in standard tuning throughout their discography.

Kind of expensive for a Japanese guitar imo. If you can find one under $2000 it might be worth it though.

Had this thing for a few weeks now, and I like it more and more each day. I was skeptical of epiphone for a while, but I unironcly think they might be very good for the price.
>>
>>70562451
You should've be waited till the prices dropped or at least a sale. You could've saved $80-$150 both ways. Also the pickups are the same from the old modern player models that were made in China so swap the pups out ASAP, they buzz like bees
