Soulside was solid death metal with some interesting ideas. Goatlord was crazy avant/prog-death. Blaze was about as complex but with early black metal atmospherics cranked up. Under turned things proper black metal. Hunger basically defined the minimalist approach that most black metal bands following would take after.

Then Panzerfaust comes along and they sound like a drunk Celtic Frost tribute band from 1986.

It is really, but it's also definitely not their best. The albums afterwards did flesh out the "poppy bm" sound better, and Eerie Cold was the perfect blend of actual black metal and the future Shining-sound if you'd ask me.

Still a good band though. Great live as well.
