Vaporwave album covers are so fucking good.

James Ferraro kind of pisses me off, because the ideas behind his albums are always better than the music itself.
Take Last American Hero for example. As someone who grew up in Arizona during the mid-2000s, I can't think of any other piece of that manages to capture the feeling of living in that moment. Despite Ferraro's writing being a little pretentious, the insert describing "Costco Nomads" does a great job of depicting The Southwest as nothing but a wasteland with strip malls.
And the music reflects this, but it sounds really shitty as a result. I know people are actually into this sort of music, but I have a very hard time enjoying it.

You really nailed it, Ferraro relies on his audience to fill in the gap between his talent and his ideas with their imagination. But really thats just a roundabout way of saying he's lazy
Can anyone suggest albums like this that aren't by Ferraro?
Conceptual genius
Decent music
I actually really enjoy this album. You need a comfy buzz to really appreciate it

Jerry Paper - Chamelion World
"Everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a vaporwave band."
-Brian Eno on Far Side Virtual
I'm a big fan of James Ferraro. Big fan. Everything's he done is gold.

the music is as great as the concepts
in fact, it matches it perfectly

And honestly, I prefer it that way. All of his work where he attempts to sing or play traditional instruments is fucking godawful. I miss his high-concept stuff.
Someone who's more well-versed in Ferraro's work who can point me to maybe about 5 works that are among his best - I guess that I'm looking for albums in which the conceptual side is great, but where it's also "balanced" by some great music
I liked Far Side Virtual, Sushi, Condo Pets, Last American Hero (though the music gets boring and I guess it's something most musicians would be able to produce), some aspects of NYC hell 3am
from what I've heard of Skid Row, I find it quite boring

what kind of music do you like?

Silica Gel (by BODYGUARD)
iAsia
Nightdolls With Hairspray
Sushi
Pixarni
These are imo his best albums, at least for each era of his sound (not including the very early ambient noise collages since I'm not really familiar with those)

mostly electronic music (both bloops and bleeps), but also mainstream trap/rap/hip hop and even pop
i really like dean blunt as well. from what i've heard from both, i much prefer blunt when he's using his voice to ferraro when he's using his, although i did like some of NYC hell 3am

forgot to say thanks, i knew all of them by name excerpt pixarni, but i haven't listened to much of it
