Many of those guys are lesser versions of the same cancer. A bunch of the rest of guys just play in unison with the guitar and maybe occasionally do a stupid/sweeping tapping solo, there's not much creativity involved at all

>Doubling them is 95% of what you do in most metal bands.
well, I think that this is a symptom of the amateurishness of later-generation metal bands rather than something necessary to the music style. There are plenty of bands (especially in more traditional styles, but even in death and black metal) that have a better understanding of texture and leave more room for interaction between the instruments.

Anyway, I don't think that the greatness of a metal bassist should be determined by their ability to keep up with the guitars, nor by the fancy tapping solos they do when they get the occasional spotlight (or, in Lapointe's case, every 2 seconds of every song). Geezer, Harris, and Cliff are all better bass players even if they can't play the hottest new tech-death songs

also I'm listening to the other Beyond Creation albums and it's better, but he's still overplaying like crazy. It doesn't help that he sticks exclusively to that super-distracting fretless mwah tone. does that dude even know what a staccato note is?

but then i see another lesson online and he does incredibly more basic chords, but it just sounds the same if not better. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URM8lqPX7rk )

i understand that there is more than one way to play the chords, but is it really worth it doing the hard way?
of course in the long run it's helping me, but why play any song the hard way if everything can be done a simpler way?

Okay. I've only been playing for a month and have never used a really high tier guitar so my eye for detail is probably lacking, but it feels great. Notes just come out as they should and the fretboard feels really even, no buzzing or strange things going on no matter where you are. Good intonation out of the box etc

>I still don't know why people don't opt for the Pacificas.
In my case I had to buy locally because I'm poor, & logistical reasons. Would probably have bought a Pacifica or something otherwise.

protip: find out what equipment your favorite artists use generally, and go test those equipments in a music store.

Take your time, test a lot, test the ones in your friends houses. MAke sure to develop a taste for em and be sure of what you like and dont, then start with something thats not very expensive

there are two paths down this road:
1)either theres a circumstance that lets you waste lots of money on a lot of guitar stuff (usually rich parents)

2)You will buy some equipment and spend from here to your last days buying and selling shit to get buy adding a bit more money to the mix

incindentally, if youre a poorfag, buy used amps, theres almost virtually no wear and tear on these equipments, if it works it works good, if it doesnt then its totally not working
>>
>>70490728
This, honestly. If you need a louder amp look at louder amps, if you need more channels look for more channels, if you need more gain or clean headroom look for that, if you need something more portable look for that. And obviously there has to be a price range, search within that. Better is completely subjective, i love jcm900s even though every hates "muh clippin diodes."

Your options are new or used, and both are limited by what's available. Check whats available and find one you like. And it really has to be one you like, no one can accurately tell you what you like.

It say Miami or Memphis or something and appeared to be from the late 60's or 70's. Says "Bass" on the front and, 3 spots to plug in (low, high, and bright) with minimal controls. Appears to have been made in Japan then checked for quality by an old company that would check out incoming electronics to be sure they were safe (started with a U or something)

any ideas would be helpful. if I can get them to take it on the cheap I might pick it up for being so oddball

i've played casually for 20 years and i still wonder; why aren't the strings numbered / ordered 1-6 top-down from the low octave E, rather than upwards / starting from the high octave E as per convention? it's probably a music theory thing, but even when reading tablature, top-down 1-6 reads naturally like a mirror image and it's how i write it personally.

usually the only thing that is ever a priority change on literally any cheap/ish electric, i dont know about yours, is the electronics / pots / pickups. all the mass produced stuff is actually fine in overall build quality... or lets say, durability and consistency. like every Encore or other cheap strat copy might sound terrible, but they all usually come out straight, no fretboard cracks, no sharp/misaligned frets, etc.

but usually the electronics, connections, and pickups are a bust.

i've never fucked enough with bridges to really comment, if there's no obvious problems you could often do more harm than good.

The bridge would even lower enough to get the strings down low enough. It's adjusted as low as it goes and they are still about 1/32" higher than they should be. The guitar is a cheap turd, I set it up as best I can but it's still a cheap turd.

Hi /gg/, I have a guitar I want to sell on ebay, and while I have sold countless things on ebay, I have never sold something of this size before. When I go to the stores in my area, I cannot even find boxes which can fit a guitar - I've not ran into this problem up until now

My plan was to take it to the UPS store, they wrap items for you, but I just wanted to get some input here first. Have any of you ever sold a guitar online before? What is a reasonable price for a used guitar? (I know this vastly depends on model, but I'd still like suggestions)

I won't lie, I got a gold pickguard and TOM bridge for it after I saw his backup guitar, the one his sig. is based off.
>>
>>70493277
I'm probably swapping out the pickups for something hotter as well but thx anon

Thinking DiMarzio SDS-1 since I like em in my other guitar.

How much of an upgrade would this guitar be over a B.C Rich Avenge?

what should i be looking out for when purchasing a bass guitar?

you should look for a bass

>>
>>70493774
are you a left or right handed? if left, try holding some right and left handed guitars to see which feels more comfortable; many lefties still prefer a righty guitar

other than that, just get a Squier Jazz bass; any model that doesn't say Affinity is probably fine, but the Vintage Modified series is good for the price

Anyone?
What about this one instead?

If you aren't happy with it than just get a different guitar. Less headaches in the long run.

They don't have any used Epiphone SGs but they have this one

And a bunch of cheaper epiphone les pauls.

How do the epiphones compare to the prs I posted here? >>70493766

Bought a blemished Tele from them and didn't have a scratch on it. Can't say if they all come like that though.
>>
>>70494463
How does it compare to the Epiphone S-500 or the PRS Custom 24? I checked and I can get 15% off with my trade in guitar. I'm trying to get the best upgrade from my BC Avenge for around the 400-500$ price range.
>>
>>70490874
That's not true at all. If you look at sunn catalogues from the 70s the stuff they put out was expensive as fuck
>>
>>70494513
Never tried a PRS but best bet is to try them in store which ever you like more.

That PRS has really good reviews and seems to go for around 1k normally. I can't find any info on the epiphone S500. I really dislike how the S500 looks too. I think I may go with the PRS.
>>
>>70494979
Actually I was looking at the wrong model. It goes for about 750-800 normally. But it still has pretty good reviews.
>>
>>70489254
pros:
>you will actually be able to get a fucking gig, and be paid for it
>it's easier
>more room to really enjoy the music since it's easier
>you can get a perfect sound with a DI box for under $200, and even cheap basses can sound immaculate
>you can change strings far less often, and if you use flatwounds you can not change strings for YEARS

cons:
>may not be as fulfilling
>may be too simple
>>
>>70494565
yeah, in the 70s. in the 90s and into the 2000s when sunn would have bought their amps they were really cheap.
>>
>>70489361
no, i took baby steps by buying a bass VI and now I just play bass full time
>>
>>70495213
Sunn uses orange and ampeg, silly. Sunn amps are expensive because they have been discontinued for a while, and towards the end of the brands life, it was bought out by fender and a lot of build changes were made that deviated from the original designs. Fender essentially ran sunn into the ground because they were afraid of the competition.
>>
>>70495368
fender did discontinue them, yes. sunn amps jumped massively in price when the band became popular. this is not even a question. sunn used some orange cabs at points, yes. they used ampeg stacks when they had bass but not as much when they both used guitars. you seriously used to be able to get a sunn solarus or 200s for like 200 bucks in really good condition.
>>
>>70495429
The amps ain't even that great, most are just harsg low end fart. They're only good with a trillion fuzzes stacked in front of em.

The cabs are fuckin NICE tho. Built like tanks.

So I don't know shit about guitars but do models actually matter at all for sound?

Can't you pretty much make any guitar sound however you want by changing pickups, strings, effects pedals, and amps, etc?

>>
>>70496439
gis any fukin gitar an i'll make it sand alright - chief keef richards

solid, semi-hollow, hollow makes most difference in models.
>>
>>70496439
pickups and strings matter most, but the physical characteristics and geometry of the instrument have an effect on string vibrations
>>
>>70496439
It really matters, a LP got a lot of sustain in the sound but a Strat can get a cleaner an brighter sound.

Every shape, wood, pickup, pedal, etc. got a different impact in the sound, so you better check what sound you want to make.
>>
>>70496439
>you can make a big hollow body jazz guitar sound like a Veleno aluminum guitar

Guys, need help with my first bass.

I got like 100€ and I want to pick a bass to learn. I live in Spain if it helps.

I don't need an amp since I could learn without it at the beginning. later I'll buy some cheap one with decent sound.
>>
>>70496608
>LP got a lot of sustain in the sound

Why do guitarists obsess over sustain? Unless your guitar sustains like a banjo, sustain is pretty irrelevant. I don't play notes that hold for half an hour and I don't need to spend money on magic sustain gimmicks to chase that sound.

Sustain®™ is just sales pitch. It can't be accurately quantified or compared so it's just some meaningless crapola that a manufacturer can claim makes their instrument better than others.

Thanks m8's have some incredibly neat handwriting.

One more question. I live in the middle of nowhere and the only teachers near me are Craigslist tier people that will just teach you songs and one guy at a shop in town that essentially just teaches straight out of the beginner books but doesn't seem to know much.

How hard is it to learn music theory on my own if I'm willing to put in the work?
>>
>>70496725
Save your money. You can't buy a good instrument with 100€, you'll just end up buying junk and getting pissed off with it, then you'll probably stop playing altogether. And you do need an amp, learning to control an electric instrument at thigh volume is one of the most important skills to learn.

tl;dr - don't waste your money, save up some more and buy something half decent

>>70496824
It's really difficult to learn theory on a guitar without someone teaching you. Unless you want to get a keyboard and learn how scales and chords are constructed, you'll struggle to figure it all out.

Sure thing kiddo. Good sustain is the mark of a well made instrument. Try playing this on a guitar that costs less than $1k.
