The Flying Burrito Brothers a good.
>>
>>70479672
It's ignored because it's boring and tired. Most modern country acts are contrived and sound completely derived from previous musicians. There was a time country music was great as a whole, but most "Country" acts these days - (Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney etc.) kinda suck.

HOWEVER there are some good musicians that mostly fall into the "country" category I.E. The Bellfuries:

I agree but modern country almost doesn't count, in the same way that Green Day doesn't count as punk

New country is doing just fine
>>
Country has one of the most beautiful instruments. The pedal steel guitar
>>
Country music isn't inherently right-wing. Johnny Cash was putting out music protesting the treatment of Native Americans at least half a decade before it became in vogue with the hippie generation and lord knows how many people Willie Nelson has turned onto pot. I've heard more country songs critiquing poverty and class problems than rock songs, ya just gotta know who to listen to.
>>
Is there any good modern country with experimental/lush instrumentation? When I say experimental I mean for the genre specifically.
>>
>>70480499
Define for the genre. Country music spans almost an entire century at this point and has a multitude of different styles. There was a time when slide guitar was a new trend in country music, believe it or not.
>>
>>70479672
country's not inherently right wing. it's only been that way since the 80s or so
>>
>country music is inherently right wing

l o l
>>
>>70480620

Nah if anything it was more authentically right wing before the 80s, especially before the 60s
>>
>>70480687

It's white christian working class music, usually pro individualism and pro masculinity
>>
>>70480701
[citation needed]
Outlaw country has famously been called the meeting of hippies and hicks for a reason y'know.
>>70480725
Give me an example of a right-wing song and I promise you I can counter each and every one with a left-wing country song.
>>
>>70480747
Will your left-wing country songs be equally popular and influential in the genre?
>>
>>70480725
jej ok dude
>>
>>70480747

I'm just saying the genre in general belongs more to the right than the left culturally and socially, it doesn't matter if there's leftist country, thats like right wingers trying to claim punk or avant garde
>>
>>70480783
>I'm just saying the genre in general belongs more to the right than the left culturally and socially,
And I'm saying that's wrong and anyone who's taken the time to listen to country music would know this.
>>70480774
>Will your left-wing country songs be equally popular and influential in the genre?
Yes, considering one of them is the arguably the most influential single in the history of the genre.
>>
>>70480783
It belongs to the right because it's
>white
>christian
>working class
>pro individualism
>pro masculinity
?
>>
>>70480825
Take out christian and pro masculinity then that applies to punk.
Take out christian (most of the time) and that applies to metal.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA9Y9FkxJZo

Jimmie Rodgers and Louis Armstrong, one considered the most influential country artist ever, the other considered the most influential jazz artist ever came together to record the first country jazz song ever which ended up being a hit among fans of both music.
>>
>>70480841
I know, it makes no sense at all. None of those traits are inherently right wing either.
>>
>>70480747
Much of outlaw country is still inherently right wing

>>70480814
I'm sorry but you're delusional and no nothing about the music other than your own bias. Leftists like to claim all art and culture as their own, it's pathetic
>>
>>70480864

Yes they are, especially if we're talking about american politics
>>
/pol/lution.

Anyway, anyone else fuckin stunned that Sturgill Simpson was on SNL?
Especially considering he's newish and not even that popular yet.
>>
>>70480887
>Leftists like to claim all art and culture as their own, it's pathetic

I think you might actually be the first person I've ever seen try to "claim" an entire genre of music (a lot of which has no direct political message) for one side of the political dichotomy

It's bizarre
>>
Here's the Cash album I mentioned earlier protesting the treatment of Native Americans. Came out before it became a hot button issue among hippies (and before the hippie movement itself), before it became an interest of Hollywood actors like Marlon Brando. It went to number 1 on the country charts and so did it's main single.

>>70480887
Anon, I promise I've listened to more country music than you or just about anyone on this board.

I'm not taking issue with the idea that country *can* be right-wing. I'm taking issue with the idea that it inherently is. None of the qualities you mentioned makes any of this inherently right-wing.

Hell, it wasn't until recently that Catholics were one of the major Democratic voting blocks. Unions are inherently working class and left-lining. Rock in almost all its forms has been mostly white since the late 50s.
>>
>>70480903
What you're saying is you can't be left wing if you're white? Or a Christian? Or working class? Or for individual freedom? Or masculine?

If this is what you're saying, you're a fucking moron dude. No way around it. That's stone dead fucking dumb.
>>
Who else /munly/ here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWHX2B967oA
>>
>>70480937
*weren't one of the major Democratic party voting blocks.

Going by your metric Woody Guthrie was right-wing, almost all of the qualities you described as white-wing apply to him. He was white, working class, Christian (even has at least one song specifically about Jesus), was as working class as working class can be (which is something he has in common with Public Enemy, I guess they have right-wing tendencies too). The only qualities of his that are on the nose are pro-masculinity (he was still damn proud to show his love of cowboy and outlaw culture) and his pro-individualism, though even that can be argued. Is Woody Guthrie right-wing in your eyes?

left = postmodernism, anti family, anti tradition, big government, mental illness

right = family, tradition, god, love, hard work, individualism, restrained government

Country culture has always at least been socially conservative, even rugged cowboy outlaw shit

Woah these are really cool, thanks! I love a lot of classic country and some new stuff but I wish there was more genre-bending stuff like this out there, much appreciated. There's an entire world of Country I haven't explored so I know there's probably lots of original boundary pushing stuff out there but as far as the mainstream goes it's way too repetitive a lot of the time for me to get into. I really love Country aesthetics though so finding out about these is great.
>>70482079
Thanks but I've already heard it, I love it. It's the thing that helped me realize the country formula can really be altered to create cool, original stuff.
>>70482056

Neil Young isn't really considered country, even by more rock-leaning country artists, just as fyi. Fantastic artist anyhow.
>>
>>70482222
No problem dude. If you like Wovenhand, he was in another band called 16 Horsepower.
There's a really long playlist on Spotify called The Sound of Gothic Americana that is all over the place musically. If you're looking for new stuff, it's a good place to look.

If you liked the Western Swing song then check out Bob Wills. He is perhaps the primary musician of that genre, and was known as the "King of Western Swing." The song I linked, San Antonio Rose, was a cover of one of Bob Wills' songs from the 30s.

What point do I need to defend that I haven't already? I'm not even defending anything, merely stating the obvious. America was primarily founded by right wing libertarian thinkers and visionaries, country music has always primarily been patriotic, unapologetically and distinctly American. Leftists are inherently anti american by virtue of being a leftist.
>>
>>70482719
>country music has always primarily been patriotic, unapologetically and distinctly American.
And again, all of this applies to Woody Guthrie and he was as left-wing as you can get.

I don't care about individually leftist country artists, I'm talking about the broad culture, rural american country culture. The people that liberal snobs call stupid hicks, that's country.
