definitely more interesting and out there compared to the other big nu metal albums

still edgy fodder for budding teens though, which makes me wonder as to why this board wouldn't like it

Slipknot's first decent album was Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. I don't know if the lack of swearing has something to do with it, but I cringe considerably less when listening to that.

It's honestly not that bad even for nu-metal. I like Corey Taylor's screaming. He sounds like a maniac. Scissors is the best song on there.

Considering I was around 13 when I bought the record at release and still give it a listen sometimes, I'd say with confidence it's their best release.

It's raw, it's harsh, it's what a teen wants.

(by the way, I still don't get why so many people just dismiss so many albums for the sake of edgyteenmusiclol .... I mean, pretty much every big artist's best work comes from their teenage years. It's when people are the most prone to be receptive and creative. It's the last bastion of purity in one's lifetime.)

they're not great songwriters, they need that intensity, All Hope is Gone demonstrated that problem even better

it has some really neat percussive work, corey taylor is a talented vocalist, and overall it effectively captures a claustrophobic atmosphere. not necessarily brilliant, but i dig it.

Mushroomhead are so irredeemably awful that it's not even so bad it's funny like Limp Bizkit they're just embarassingly bad. Slipknot at least has great song structures and riffs, Mushroomhead sounds like a messy collage of bullshit they haphazardly threw together.
