Can we all agree that political music is garbage? Especially in recent times where it's basically all biased toward the left.
>>
The song isn't political
>>
>>70466592
>And I thought the best way to perfect our tree,
>Is by building walls.
>Rose like unicorns,
>In full glory and galore.
>And even stronger than the walls of Jericho,
>Glad then my friend let in the few we shall reap a grand idea,
>Of what we have always dreamt of having,
>Now for the starving,
>It is love,
>And that is the root of all evil,
>But not our tree, and thank you my friend,
>For trusting me.
it's completely political and hits you over the head with it too
>>
>>70466561
Rightards are too stupid to make music. All they care about is GUNZ and MUH TRADITIONAL VALUES
>>
Those cucks think they can insult the God Emperor? They'll never have a band as iconic as Three Doors Down or Kid Rock on their team. Boy I love drinking libtard tears while making America great again.
>>
>Can we all agree that opinions I disagree with are garbage
literally you
>>
all music is political
>>
>>70466561
I guess that Bob Dylan's songs are all garbage according to you. Frank Zappa's songs too.
>>
>>70466561
No. Shut the fuck up, triggered /pol/faggot.
>>
>gorillaz makes kids with guns
MAN THIS IS SO GOOD

WTF THIS IS BAD STOP ATTACKING MY SHITTY PRESIDENT REEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>Can we all agree that political music is garbage?

so what you're saying is

>Can we all agree that political music that doesn't agree with my personal political views is garbage?
>>
>>70466561
it's best to seek approval on reddit
>>
>>70467223
but Kids With Guns was a solid pop song. This is... something. I'm sure it'll click eventually.
>>
>>70467223
>gorillaz makes kids with guns
Man, this sucks.
>anti trump song
Man, this sucks.
>>
>>70466561
>"stop having opinions i don't like!!!!!!"
funny how the "we don't need safe spaces" crowd expects everything to pander to them and not challenge them
>>
Music that puts the political bullshit before the actual music is garbage.
If the music itself is good I don't care about how much I agree or disagree with the lyrics.

Postmodernism leaked into popular music

A right winger who listens to free jazz or krautrock suffers cognitive dissonance as those are communist and Anarchist ideologies

Right wing and left wing are essentially meaningless at this point, and I'm surprised that people keep using the terms. They are so general and changing that you might as well avoid them entirely.

>>
>>70469583

He's literally the most unpopular president to ever be elected in modern history. He didn't even win the popular vote against a fucking potato. I don't care if you support Trump, but don't you don't have to be even more retarded than you probably already are.
>>
>>70469378
>Postmodernism leaked into popular music
No it didn't.
>>
>>70469560
except for the fact that many, many people align themselves staunchly one way or the other. your average 65-year-old voter doesn't give a shit about the nuances of personal politics when their entitlements are on the line.
>>
>>70468982
He lost the popular vote by over 3 million votes (the most in history for a president), is the most unpopular presidential candidate to win an election since the 19th century, and is the least popular major party nominee in modern history. He's taking office with the lowest approval rating for any non-incumbent president in history, and he's the first Republican President in history not to be endorsed by his predecessors.

Also, almost no popular musicians want to play his inauguration, and as evidenced by this thread, he's on track to inspire all the top albums of 2017 to be anti-Trump albums.
>>
>>70469618

Kind of reminds me how leftards during their brief period of blaming the hillary loss on 3rd party voters, arrogantly assumed that if they didn't vote 3rd party they "obviously" would've voted hillary.

If they liked hillary so much then they would've voted for in the first place.

>>70469656

Sorry but popular vote means shit. Trump had the most EVEN DISTRIBUTION of votes among the states, that's why he won. It works that way because we don't want mexicans who flood into california and have 18 bazillion children screwing up the vote results.

>>70469736
I refuse to use the terms. They are way too simplistic and divisive. Political affiliation is incredibly complicated and the idea that it can be summed up in two categories is fucking retarded/
>>
>>70469778
>popular vote means shit

actually it's a pretty good indication of, if nothing else, popularity, which is what we're talking about
>>
>>70469793
Uh huh, and tell the class how that percent compares to his opponent and the outgoing president. Go ahead, tell us anon. Surely you're not leaving out vital context on purpose.

>>

you literally support a billionaire president who shits on a golden toilet, refuses to put his assets in a blind trust, refuses to release his tax returns, likely hasn't paid taxes in ten years, appointed friends and family to cabinet positions, and is well on track to be the most corrupt and greedy elite in the oval office in the history of the united states
>>
>>70469834
The context is Trump's popularity you dumbfuck. You stupidly imply that I have some absurd Clintonite motive by pointing out that Trump is a pile of shit that no one likes.
>>
>trumpfags literally triggered by a song
>>
>>70469813
i get where you're coming from, and i'm not policing your language. i'm just saying that for many "right wing" and "left wing" still hold a lot of weight.

let's not even delve into the possibility that words can change meaning over time (gasp). the bottom line is that the west is extremely politically divided. you can call it left vs. right, bip vs. bop. i don't give a shit, but you can't ignore that there is about half of the western world who thinks you're an idiot for your beliefs, no matter what.
>>
>>70469851
Right and your comment shows me that you don't know who "The Elites" are. If we were on their side, they wouldn't have spent the past year and a half conspiring against him and railing against him.

When the media, political establishment and intelligence agencies are all on the same side against a person, he is not in the in crowd that myself and anyone else is talking about besides low info voters.
>>
>>70469818

I agree but you're forgetting that people are literally afraid of saying that they like trump because they'll be lambasted as raycis, trannyphobic, muh soggy knees and all the other buzzwords people throw around. This is why all of the predictions about hillary winning were wrong.

Stop pretending like you know my beliefs. The entire percentage was an answer to a stupid comment above me. So it's pretty ironic that you lambast me for taking things out of context. Voter turnout has hit a 20 year low. Trump still lost the popular vote by the largest margin ever to probably the worst candidate in modern history in a climate incredibly favorable to rhetoric he employed. There will be a quarter million people at least that protest his inauguration in DC alone. The fact that you think I'm a shill just shows that you're too lazy to ever have your own worldview questioned.

Whether that is you'e ignorance, stupidity or dishonesty is what I don't know.

This is very straightforward.

I am a moderate, you don't know shit. I hold views from both sides and none of them are extreme.

If you work somewhere that everyone explicitly brands themselves as right wing and left wing using those terms, you are not at a normal place. People might use liberal, conservative, republican, democrat, libertarian, even socialist, or they specifically reference politicians they agree with. Right and left wing is far from the most common descriptor.

Still for some strange reasons, Dems REFUSE to estimate how many illegals voted, branding it as insane conspiracy, despite the fact that our very president encouraged it. What are they hiding, what's the real number who voted?

>>
>>70466561
No. Many great genres stem from social affairs e.g., blues. I think it's harder for an artist to create a successful song that concerns it's main theme around politics. The best anti-establishment songs are not literally saying "fuck the establishment," rather they work around issues by the listeners interpretation with an obscure lyrical stimulus.

It's all about how the listener relates, and so political music now isn't great because life is pretty damn good. Think about how hip hop has evolved with the decline of racism. In the 80s and 90s, a black guy in the streets could relate to that shit because a lot of cops were actually racist as fuck. Now you just have a bunch of talentless idiots rapping about selling drugs and killing people because people are beginning to realize you can get out of the hood - the argument about police brutality and race relations being shit doesn't hold anymore.

There is always going to be a reason to express political views through music, and some of the greatest music has been made in this context. It's all about expressing the point of view that truly resonates with the public.

The song isnt garbage, but it is definitely not living up to the expectations that most of us were hoping for. If you look at this not from a political viewpoint and just listen and try to enjoy it, you still feel like something is off about this song. For starters its very unconventional and not your average pop song and for this to be the first released track after such a long hiatus, that's a very bold thing to do. But to make it centered around the controversy of the most recent election causes the song to not quite hit its mark. There's something missing as if it was made just for quick exposure, but its almost pretentious, wheres the feeling you get when you hear a song and think "wow"? its not there.
It would still work as one of the last songs on the album, but its not something ill first showcase. But It's only one song and the album's still not out

In a competitive market some will 'overlook' potential risks of their actions as long as it means greater profits. Its not that they're evil or stupid as much as desperate for an edge. Eventually, some jackass will be running an untidy ship and greatest cost will be to those other than themselves. Plus in the case of a war, a nuclear reactor is a double target for foreign agents since meltdowns are capable of causing great area damage, and they provide mass amounts of power to the public.

i like my free healthcare
glad i don't live in the usa
a lot of my american friends don't have insurance, even some of the ones i would consider wealthy/middle class
that seems weird to me, they could get hit by a car or get cancer and end up with bills in the millions
that will literally never happen to me

Ok but denying global warming is just stupid. As stupid as denying evolution, actually worse because it's way more dangerous.

nice projection, but i actually work in healthcare, so it's kind of my business. i already see people falling through the cracks in our current system. it's going to be unreal when all of these people get their insurance taken from them.

>>70471651
not at all. know what's worse than paying a premium? not being insured and being put into crippling debt over a stroke or some gay shit. what's even worse than that is multitudes of people being put into crippling debt and defaulting so that the state eats the cost.

>>70471692
insurance got worse because of the free market you fellate. i already said i'd prefer universal so that even insufferable faggots like you can be insured. but for the time being, it's the best thing we have. because insurers don't want to pay for chronic illnesses.

You do realize that multiple presidents have lost the popular vote in the past (including Obongo.)

The only reason why people are using this "popular vote" argument is because of liberal faggots freaking out over Trump for some reason. Why didn't anyone question the electoral college when the black guy lost the vote?

if it would get people to go get regular check-ups, labwork, etc., then yeah. i'd encourage the fuck out of that. preventative healthcare. because it's way more expensive in the long run to treat diabetes, COPD, stroke, amputation, obesity, etc. when it all hits you at once later in life.

Except that's not what happens. Instead you have people running to the doctor for every last two bit problem. Health care is a finite resource and it needs to be conserved for actual medical emergencies, not fake conditions like having a gender identity crisis.

love it when music is about something more interesting than who the singer wants to fuck or whatever. political music, when it's smartly written, can be the best thing. all art is inherently political- you can't really have apolitical art no matter how you try- so having art that smartly considers its political message is fantastic and a welcome change.

yeah, we've all heard this argument before. it's nonsensical reductivism. is ordering a ham sandwich a political statement? when you order a ham sandwich you're tacitly endorsing the status quo, right? or maybe it's a faith statement because you're expressing your beliefs about ham sandwiches. or maybe it's a complex intersectional genderqueer treatise? sorry, i'm a few years out of my freshman seminars so i can't keep all this straight.

There are many theories on what caused the Little Iceage. However at the Globe saw only mere fluctuations in overall temperature, .03 degrees Celsius to be clear.

That's half of what we're at now. Not to mention that accrued over a period of 400 years. The spike in temperatures over that past century, even decade has been unprecedented.

Different poster; you aren't wrong given the current context. However early London ran on gas lamps and it was incredibly expensive and seen as a silly Victorian meme and sentiments such as 'lol gas and power could never power nations with 50 million people, stick to candles you libertarian post Victorian scum'.

Like another poster said, thanks to people like Elon Musk, renewables will take over once technology gets better. A lot of countries are already more than half way there.

I see your point, albeit it's a such silly to say renewables are pointless because they don't work now. I hope if you have kids they have a cool future with less pollution so we can keep agriculture and nice holidays etc etc.

Hope your day is going well.
