Holy fuck this better be bait.
>>70460558
Na that would be The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady for most people on here. Kind of Blue is actually acclaimed in jazz circles and considered a good way to get into jazz.
>>70460619
he's right though
>>70460689
Kind of Blue is THE entry level jazz album. Still good of course
>>70460738
But it's not the token jazz album people throw on their lists and charts to make it seem like they like jazz. It's too entry-level for that. That's why the token jazz album is TBSATSL.

Name a better rock album than Spiderland?
You can't.

My main arguement for Kind of Blue (and A Love Supreme) falling into the category of Token Jazz album - completely unrelated to the quality of either, I believe they are both masterpieces in there own rights. But they are far too commonly used to show an understanding of Jazz. They are the most Reddit Jazz albums, the main music circles on Reddit, whenever Jazz is bought up it's always "A Love Supreme this or a Kind of Blue that" /mu/ on the other hand, be it a small community of Jazz fans on /mu/ have moved past the entry-level Jazz album, Reddit on the other hand never moved past A Love Supreme and A Kind of Blue and used them (especially on /r/vinyl) to show a vague understanding of the ridiculously huge and convoluted world of Jazz. Making them Token Jazz albums in my opinion.

plenty by Unwound, Sonic Youth or The Fall for starters. Probably Tweez as well
>>70460816
Why do people jerk-off constantly to Spiderland, it's straight-up boring and lackluster. It's dated and barely shows skill on the players part, the drumming and guitar playing is completely laughable in parts but gets the free pass because "m-muh post-rockkkk" They weren't making Post-rock, they were making boring, and pretentious rock music. That people just said "uuuh, uhhh, IT'S POST-ROCK. Yeah, it's so fucking advanced it's gone past """rock""" and it's something different"
But I don't really like any of those. All those artists have made better albums.

Only Influential albums please.

> Its good, but I hate it because people I dont like pretend to like/understand it
How can one be so insecure?
>>70461003
How can one be so insecure to see that people who parade Kind of Blue as the greatest piece of music have no understanding or appreciation for Jazz, just the idea that Jazz is a greater and more intelligent artform, therefore using the most selling Jazz album as a pair of sunglasses to hide a lack of understanding or appreciation. It's the reason his shoehorned into every musical discussion on Reddit, and is the only the Jazz album in sight on most of /r/vinyl.
