Happy birthday Joanna <3 <3 <3
Happy birthday, Joanna. Enjoy all the shitty publicity over Willow Smith covering one of your songs and posting it everywhere!

W-what no
Happy birthday Joanna. I'm listening to a live set from your Ys tour right now. I love you.
>>70436506
>tfw no thicc jewish gf
>>70436923
The live versions of Ys are fucking godlike on another level. Her live versions are usually very interesting. I would kill for an official live album.
Happy birthday my waifu
I will one day find a girl like you, even if it takes 15 years of denying perfectly acceptable girls.
>>70436506
HBD Joanna, i love your voice and your ass
>>70437383
I know. I almost never listen to the studio version anymore. The endings of Emily and Monkey and Bear blow me away.
I can post about six live recordings if you want. I have them uploaded. Three are very high quality from the Divers tour. They have some really cool new versions of Good Intentions and PPP
>>70436923

>>70437518
Yes, please. I only have the Bottletree 06, Munich 05, and Paris 2011 shows. I was gonna downloaded some recent ones from dimeadozen but I never got around to it.
I wish I could into Joanna Newsom
She is obviously really talented and beautiful but her music just doesn't stick with me at all. And her voice is kinda grating
Posting them anyway

Damn, thank you my man. Gonna jerk it to all of these.
i wonder what present Andy got her
>>70437596
I posted them. I need to upload them to PTH but I'm lazy. What's dimeadozen? I don't think I have the Munich set. Where did you get it?
Trips and Joanna releases a groundbreaking album this year
>>70437658
Dimeadozen is a torrent site dedicated to bootlegs. I can't even remember where I downloaded the Munich show. It was from a radio performance or some such. It's all MeM stuff except for a Sawdust & Diamonds performance. The only thing I hate is that she actually does Sprout and the Bean, which she doesn't do in almost any shows I've seen available, and the fucking broadcast cuts off halfway through. I love Sprout and the Bean a lot. Will upload for you now.
>>70437609
Honestly it was that way for me at first, yet after listening to Ys and Have One On me a handful of times each her voice became more bearable and then somewhat beautiful. Sort of like an acquired taste I suppose.
>>70437714
Tyvm. I'll listen to it tonight. Another version of Sawdust would be fantastic. I thought I had all her live stuff so this is a great Joanna birthday present.
>>70437609
I listened to Ys about five years ago after taking some mescaline. It burned itself into my brain and years later she is my favorite artist. I never enjoyed anything like her before that night. Psychedelics seem to do that for me. Spaces by Nils Frahm is the most current example. I absolutely love that album after hearing it while tripping and I've never been into anything like it before.
I was going to make this thread after work. I probably still will. Thanks OP
>>70436506
Happy Birthday! Collab with one of your favorite artists, Grimes, when?
>Interviewer: What young artists do you feel an affinity with? I heard you're a Kendrick fan.
>Joanna Newsom: I loved the latest Bjork album, I'm excited about the idea of Grimes. I haven't wrapped my head around the record. I find her so compelling and so unlike anybody else and so incredibly talented, skilled, and fun. I love her. I met her in LA a few months ago, she told me something along the lines of, "I grew up listening to your music". I will say, it made me feel really old for about five minutes, then it made me feel really happy. I was like well, I guess I'm old now, but that's okay because this awesome and amazing young musician likes my music and said that it was special to her when she was younger, so that's great.

>>70437886
Almost done. I forgot there is also a Cosmia performance. Since it is a radio broadcast it is pretty solid recording quality. She also plays What We Have Known, which is nice.

>>70437998
Oh that's great I've never heard a live version of What We Have Known. Is it an extended Cosmia like from the Ys tour/Ys Street Band EP or what? The Cosmia outro on the Bottletree recording is so good. I've been to that venue a few times. It's a nice little place.
>>70438050
It's just the standard 7 minute version. Probably cause these are early performances of the songs. Are you from Alabama as well?
>>70438036
Holy fuck that setlist is fantastic
Thank you so much
>>70438077
Yeah that makes sense. I'm sure it's still great. No I live in Georgia. I'll go to b-ham when there's a band I like a lot playing. I've been there to see Floor and Mewithoutyou and Thou a few times. Haven't been in a little while though.
>>70438137
Yeah, I just listened to it and it's great. Also, this version of En Gallop is fantastic.
>>70438285
I'm looking forward to it. Won't be home for another six hours unfortunately.
Praise your girl, /mu/.
Am I the only one who got stiff when I saw her live?

I wish she made a live DVD,or that the whole Austin City Limits performance was on Youtube.
>>70439931
It's either Only Skin or Go Long for me.
>>70439858
I love that Baby Birch performance. She has so many good ones, it's hard to choose but I think lately this performance of Emily is godly.

>>70439858
That was her encore during the Divers tour show I saw last year. Almost made me cry.

Disc 2 of HOOM is GOAT.
Some nights
I just never go to sleep at all,
and I stand,
shaking in my doorway like a sentinel,
all alone,
bracing like the bow upon a ship,
and fully abandoning
any thought of anywhere
but home,
my home.
Sometimes I can almost feel the power.
And I do love you.
Is it only timing,
that has made it such a dark hour,
only ever chiming out,
"Cuckoo, cuckoo"?
>>70440324
Someone said the chiming out cuckoo bit is exactly an hour into the album. Probably not intentional but pretty cool.
>>70440371
I did the maths and it's not exactly 1 hour, but it's close.
>>70440411

>>70440879
yea, that was my question. all anal play is fuckin grim. you can do a girl doggystyle and get all the benefits of anal without actually having to stick anything in her actual asshole that she shits out of
ppl are fuckin weird
All these ghost towns, wreathed in old loam
(Assateague knee-deep in seafoam)-
Ho Swansea! Buttonwillow!
Lagunitas! Ho Calico!
And all these beastly bungalows
stare, distend, like endless toads -
endlessly hop down the road.
Borne by wind, we southward blow.
While yonder, wild and blue,
the wild blue yonder looms.
'Till we are wracked with rheum,
by roads, by songs entombed.
>>70440833
I don't know if I'd even want them. She's too pure and it would probably make her very sad. Alice will suffice.
>>70440980
Well I didn't say I want to lick a 20 dollar worth crack whore who probably hasn't showered in 2 weeks. She's Joanna. I'd literally eat her poop.
>>70441062

He did not want to compose another Quixote —which is easy— but the Quixote itself. Needless to say, he never contemplated a mechanical transcription of the original; he did not propose to copy it. His admirable intention was to produce a few pages which would coincide—word for word and line for line—with those of Miguel de Cervantes. “My intent is no more than astonishing,” he wrote me the 30th of September, 1934, from Bayonne. “The final term in a theological or metaphysical demonstration—the objective world, God, causality, the forms of the universe—is no less previous and common than my famed novel. The only difference is that the philosophers publish the intermediary stages of their labor in pleasant volumes and I have resolved to do away with those stages.” In truth, not one worksheet remains to bear witness to his years of effort.

I got excited for a second cause I have a Sydney Opera House set. but it's from 2010. I don't have any live shows past 2011.
>>70450841
Holy shit post the 2010 set. I think that's the last time she ever played Only Skin live.
>>70450829
no she won't think that's funny

DO AS I COMMAND
>>70450841
These links in >>70437630 have a 2011 show from Paris and the second link is three shows from last year. You should definitely upload the Sydney show.
>>70450854
It's on Soulseek, but she didn't play Only Skin there, so I think you're thinking of another show. It's actually her 28th birthday show, coincidentally.
>>70450854
It doesn't have Only Skin, but I'll upload it anyway soon, I'm in the middle of something right now though. I've been meaning to upload all the ones I have.

I had completely forgotten about slsk. There's a lot on there. I'm downloading these sets now if anyone wants them uploaded. The Bottletree is in the first Mega link in the thread
I've been looking for that Unitarian Church one for as long as I can remember.
>>70451040
I have a 2007 show in Tokyo where she plays only skin.

Thanks to the anon who mentioned Soulseek. There's an unbelievable amount of live stuff on there. Who knows what the quality is like though. I'm uploading these right now. The rest are still downloading.

Does anyone have recordings of the shows where she played all of Ys with a full orchestra?
>>70451662
I was wondering how long you would wait.
>>70451734
It may be one of these I'm uploading right now. It's 1.15gb though so it won't be done for about half an hour.

This is great. I've been to that site before but never found any new music on it. Thanks for compiling this. Pic related for anyone interested
>>70451760
Cool. I probably won't be able to download it until tomorrow.
>>70451767
I've seen that one, it's good. But she did a few shows with a big orchestra in 2007/2008. This Only Skin performance from one of those concerts is so good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-F6LZBNtfw

It hurts a little bit. If only I had known about her earlier.

I try to post my uploads in every Joanna thread I see. It feels good to share this stuff. Thanks for starting the thread, if it was you.

Also, this one is nearly two hours long.
This has been the comfiest Joanna thread.
Alright here's a bunch of stuff I just found on Soulseek. It's not comprehensive but it's everything I could find that I didn't already have. I cannot speak for the recording quality of any of these but they're better than nothing and they are all split up into individual tracks. I already posted the other stuff I had much earlier in the thread. Unfortunately the Unitarian Church recording is stuck at like 25% so if anyone has that that would be great.
I am extremely grateful for all the music everyone has shared today. Thanks guys.

Yeah it has. Me and /mu/ don't appreciate a lot of the same bands so this is nice. I've been enjoying it since noon today.

Yeah I'm the OP. I haven't been on /mu/ in a while, I mostly just browse /tg/ now, but this is one of my favorite threads I've been a part of.

She's played there multiple times, this one I think is a rip of the youtube video posted earlier.

>>70453086
I didn't know she had. The Unitarian Church set was a request on What for a long time so I always hoped it would be filled one day. I'll check this one out right now. Thank you.
Sawdust & Diamonds > Only Skin > Emily > Cosmia > Monkey & Bear
All still 10/10.
>>70453402
I can't disagree with this. Though the Ys tour's version of Monkey and Bear is one of the best things I've ever heard. The studio version became such a disappointment after hearing it. Check out the Bottletree set if you haven't heard it.
Give your top 5 JNew tracks:

>Have One On Me
>Cosmia
>Autumn
>Sprout And The Bean
>>70453508
The live version of Monkey and Bear made me truly appreciate it. It is insane. Her live versions usually manage to top the studio arrangements. I just want an official live album spanning her whole career goddammit.
>>70453629
>Sawdust & Diamonds

>Only Skin
>Baby Birch
>>70453875
We'll never get that but at least we have what we have. Do you know of a Monkey and Bear recording that's better than the Bottletree version? In terms of audio quality, I mean. The later versions, that weren't from the Ys tour, aren't as good, but the Bottletree recording is the best quality I've heard. It's like a Joanna Newsom bluegrass deal. Same with the end of Emily and Only Skin.
>>70454134
Nothing with that energy, but the 2011 Paris show is very good sound quality and a great performance. I'm downloading a bunch of the bootlegs posted in this thread, so I might find one.
you guys are cute
>>70454185
I've had that recording for a while. It's a good rendition but the instrumentation is totally different than the Bottletree version. Not as many layers to it. Just finished listening to the Live at Sixth recording. Very good. Kingfisher and Inflammatory Writ are fantastic. I hadn't heard a good recording of Inflammatory until now.

I was very lucky to meet her and robin pecknold last year. I got to hug her.
meeting her was a bit underwhelming. She kind of did the whole celebrity thing. She did hug us all though. Pecknold on the other hand was extremely down to earth. Shared a few cigs and talked about New York.
>>70454770
>meeting her was a bit underwhelming. She kind of did the whole celebrity thing
This is why I have no desire to meet any celebrities unless they're already standing right in front of me. What am I going to say that they haven't heard already? I won't really get anything from meeting them. It's unnecessary.
>>70454185
kek I'm listening to the Unitarian Church recording right now and it has the same setlist as Bottletree but without Monkey and Bear. She even says "We're gonna play this whole record, start to finish." What the fuck
>>70454834
desu senpai I just wanted her to sign my LP so I could put it on my wall.
And I disagree because of my experience with pecknold there. I had a nice chat that actually gave me a bit of insight into the songwriter behind the fleet foxes. I listen to them a bit differently now and value the experience.
You just don't know what you're going to get. But they do so don't mean your heroes... it will only disappoint.
>>70454869
Nah man I'm not shitting on you for wanting to meet her or anything. It just doesn't really do anything for me to talk to the musicians I see.
I actually brought my HooM record to be signed but they wanted $20 to park near the venue so I ended up parking a 20 minute walk away or else I probably would have tried to meet her too. Wasn't worth it to me. If it happens eventually that's great but I'm only expecting to be disappointed/embarrassed by the stupid shit they say or I say.
