I've had spotify a couple months and love but recently added apple to see if they get any new releases in the next few months that spotify doesnt. I prefer the spotify design but I am much more familiar with it so I'm probably biased.

Oh no, anon, just no. The only reason I see why anyone would need to stream their music is if they don't have enough space on their device to hold their library or they have high data limits or unlimited data.

I normally would have never streamed my music if it weren't for the fact that my insurance-issued phone (a Galaxy S6) doesn't have an expansion slot and just recently upgraded to an unlimited data plan.

Spotify premium is kinda nice. You can download up to 320kbps to use while offline. Not great but that shitty either. Plus they have some promotions every now and then, like 3 months for 1€

Still, I'll back up other anons. Soulseek and iTunes sync is the the best option

I did the Apple Music 3 month free thing last year and I actually liked it, aesthetically and overall, but iTunes for Windows for me is an absolute nightmare. Extreme, extreme lag, the likes of which I haven't experienced with any other app.

So I signed up for Spotify Premium when they were giving a free Chromecast away and have been with it ever since. The app bothers me slightly because I think they should make it faster to be able to search for something (requires like 3 presses or so) but other than that I love it. But I stayed with it because it's good, the app doesn't lag, and I like the convenience feature of Connect where you can control what's playing on your computer with your phone, and vise versa. So I can be sitting on my sofa listening to music through my monitors and pause/change tracks/adjust the volume using the Spotify app, while it's actually all playing from the Spotify app on my computer

Yea, that happens to be the very issue. Soulseek + iTunes sync was exactly what I was doing, but I'll only be able to store about 400-450 tracks on my phone max. Not exactly ideal.

In that case I recommend Google Play Music. Although it's not ideal in terms of uploading and downloading your music, you can have 30k songs in your library. For free. You could also make other alternate accounts to store another 30k songs as well. That's what I'm doing, but I haven't filled up my song limit yet. I'm sure Google doesn't care just like with having multiple Google Drive accounts for storage.

Personally I wouldn't be able to tell you about GPM's recommendations because I haven't tried it out. I refuse to subscribe to anything when I already have a big library of music. I think Spotify would probably have best recommendations just because they allow users to make playlists. But I think if you're looking for the less known stuff, all the services might just fall flat.

It's a matter of personal preference really. I just like GPM just cause I can store my music, and if I were to subscribe, I can download that music as well.

I understand the appeal of streaming, even if I don't like it, but there's something so much more satisfying about actually owning the music. Not to mention that some old albums (Dark Side of the Moon for example) require continuous playing with no loading or buffering between tracks to get the best out of them.

I went with Spotify because it has an official Desktop OS app that is good, unlike Apple's iTunes and there's no official app for Google.

Getting youtube red is probably the best choice selection wise, considering most music you want to hear will most likely be uploaded their despite copyright claims (except king crimson). But keep it mind most of the time zero percent of the revenue even goes to the artist.

i've been paying for spotify with my university discount for awhile now and I have had an overall good experience, besides some minor interface issues it's good. Steer clear of the pre made playlists but discover weekly can have some dope finds every now and then.

This. Desktop-wise, Spotify Premium is absolutely flawless. Mobile-wise, if you haven't got a good data plan (I have free Spotify Premium with free streaming data), you can always "download" the albums to your app, so you can listen to them offline.

It's true though, every time you open up Apple Music are you are inundated with a bunch of "deep" mainstream pop/R&B albums covers, as well as large, "deep" pictures of these sorts of artists.

It all feels very image-based (not a surprise coming from Apple) and also very corporate. Part of the appeal of music streaming is being able to play whatever you want whenever you want and being able to get away from what the labels shove down your throat over the radio, on TV, in pop culture, etc.

Of course, you can do this just as easily with Apple Music as the other services, but clearly the front page is owned by the labels

Literally the biggest thing which puts Apple music over Spotify apart from actual content is the curated music collections. Those alone make it more for people who actually give a shit about music history and culture than anything else. Having article-playlists like 'The Early Berlin School' and 'Psychedelia in the 80s' constantly being compiled by highly knowledgeable contributors and sent to you based on your tastes absolutely puts it above the competition.

I'm currently using apple music which I signed on for cause of three months free but the UI is garbage and the nly thing it really has going for it is the massive amounts of money apple is willing to throw at it to secure early releases.

I'm thinking of switching to Spotify mainly because I'm getting sick of not being able to scrobble tracks when I use apple music
