Kinda hard to do when that's how they started.

What do you mean?
lol at that brow

Ok then how exactly could rem sell out? What would that be like?
actually not sure if this thread is for real
rem was like the original sellout band. they pretty much invented the college rock -> radio fodder career progression that every 'alternative' band for the next 25 years followed
just because they happened to write a couple of good albums after selling out does not make them any less guilty of selling out
R.E.M were sellouts from day 1 but they made good music anyway
every band with some modicum of success is arguably 'selling out' by virtue of making a lot of money. Music is a business too at the end of the day.

Spoony?
>>70388502
Any album that doesn't deliberately try to make the listener turn it off is fucking poseur sellout garbage
>>70387804
the closest they ever came to selling out was document
they kept reinventing themselves with every major label release and kept their artistic integrity through it all
definitely not.

>they kept reinventing themselves with every major label release
I think you might be exaggerating

i'll admit i haven't listened past up, but i don't think it's an exaggeration
like, green was literally an attempt to not write rem songs
