She's alright but imo it doesn't age well after you've listened a few times to her work. On top of that some of the lyrics aren't that great. Best example is the lyrics in Embody from Next Thing album. It's cute, though, I'll give her that. I really like the Art School music video, though.

Her music is mostly simple and gentle with fairly straightforward chord progressions. It's pleasant but far from risk taking. I think that her drummer makes the music more interesting and covers up for the lack of variance. Her voice is soft though and is fairly revealing so, that's where people could potentially connect. I however, don't really feel a lot when hearing her music.

. Her cadences suck(see the awkwardly written Embody) and the melodies are just bland, bland, bland. Not to mention, and I'll just come out and say it: She's a terrible singer. Her falsetto is weak, and her inflection is dopey and blunted, which is not inherently bad when the instrumentals aren't just as devoid of personality. I will say there a few decent moments here with some of the more colorful guitar riffs, like the sunny riff on "On The Lips" that comes off quite nicely, even though it gets trashed by the atrocious attempt at a vocal harmony that comes after, but for the most part everything here is one-note and lackluster.

And so I did what I always do for a release that is THIS underwhelming, which is look to the lyrics for a ray of light in this dark cloud. And thankfully, there are some interesting stories that detail flings, regrets, and desire, almost always through the lens of a relationship. But these vivid tales are usually in part thrown away with lazy lyrics and rhymes, and dumb ass lines of "got off the train in New Mexico, and thought of you". It's just too easy formulated for me to handle when I have no depth in the music to explore beside these tragically written lyrics. I must say, she's far better off in her lower vocal register and when she dwells in depression, at least there her dopey inflection can have some use, because when she tries to go high it just exposes her strain and sluggishness, like on Sappho, which the whole time just made me wish Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins had been doing that chorus.

The cruel humor of it is I actually much enjoy the last track "O Dreaded C Town", with those 80's analog keys that pulse quietly behind the exact vocal delivery I wish she had used for the whole album, with some actually strikingly sad lyrics for once. Damn, day late and a dollar short.

I don't care about her background. I just can't understand why anybody would want to listen to her recycled lo-fi indie garbage.

There is literally nothing original about her music. This would be forgivable if at least it sounded good, but it doesn't come close.
