They are good, but I'm afraid I don't understand their influence.
What exactly makes them revolutionary?

Why they don't do a new album??
>>70363941
what do you call this anon
>>70364027
because they know it won't be as good as Spiderland and it will inevitably be compared to it and because people are stupid, they'll say it's bad
>>70363963

people still were disappointed with it because it isn't Loveless
it's why Kevin hasn't released any new music
>no one talks about the EP
Fuck Good Morning Captain, the breakdown in Rhoda is the finest moment of their career. Insane buildup and energy.
Also, love the chorus-abuse tone of the guitars in Tweez. Reminds me a lot of Husker Du. Underrated album.

Plebs were disappointed because it's a more mature, calm and varied progression from Loveless. It got rave reviews for the most part and those who didn't expect Loveless 2.0 were thrilled with it.
I think Slint should give it a go, their sound could be explored in a shit load of ways. Hell, even if they pull an American Football I wouldn't be THAT bummed, at least we got new Slint.

I can understand it. When I was a tiny bit good at something once and had a status in that community, I constantly felt the pressure to live up to these expectations that I imagined for my reputation. Always self-conscious.
For an artist that actually has achieved something I can see the difficulty if their brain works even slightly like mine.
Probably why a lot of world class sportsmen retire before their skills deteriorate too much even though they could continue at a high level.

I read it. It's good
Fuck slint.
>>70363926
How about we talk about their post-Slint projects instead of memeing this album to death. There's nothing more to be said about it, and for a board that supposedly loves this band, it's surprising so few people seek out more of their music.
The For Carnation s/t is just as good as Spiderland, and David Pajo's solo work is consistently great (well, his studio albums anyway).

They changed the way a lot of people think about rock music. I wouldn't necessarily say they reinvented the wheel or anything like that, but their sparse sound and dynamics definitely influenced a lot of artists like PJ Harvey, Cat Power andMogwai, and basically created its own mini-genre in Louisville with bands like Rodan, June of 44 and Shipping News emerging shortly afterwards. It got to the point that Codeine actually moved to Louisville out of intrigue.
Then there's post-rock, which I think is kind of a lazy genre label. Slint were first-wave post-rock - a bunch of completely unrelated bands that sounded way different to each other, but happened to approach rock music in a new-ish way around the same time. The drawn-out song structures of today's post-rock are somewhat indebted to Slint, but the dynamics are gone and the sound is much more hazy. Slint had the sonic palette of a noise rock or post-hardcore band, most modern post-rock does not. But the tension and release Slint created was definitely an influence on today's crescendocore.

The For Carnation is what you're looking for. Brian McMahan's band, with some contributions from Slint members. Almost like Spiderland mixed with trip hop. Unlike MBV many of the members have consistently made music since 1991, so I imagine there's less of a motive to reunite.
