It may not be my personal favourite album, but I truly believe this is an unmatched musical masterpiece. Has it ever been equalled? The amount of detail in each arrangement is mind boggling. The emotion in every lyric is beautiful. Every vocal harmony is pitch perfect. Overall, and absolutely transcendent classic. It's aged amazingly, been hugely influential, and is still incredible to listen too.

Is this the peak of music? Can anything ever be better than this? Has it been surpassed by an album I am unaware of?

I honestly can't. I don't think there's any other album where I'm so obsessed with every single song on it.

Agree. I heard it for the first time at the end of 2015. I haven't heard anything I would personally love more, probably 'cause I'm still young and the album is so relevant to my life. Yet, I can just picture listening to this 20, 30, 40 years down the line. Those harmonies, those chord progressions, melodies, timbres, I don't know how Wilson does it, but he make all the songs so magical. Now, Don't Talk is intensely magical to me, it resonates with my soul is the best way to describe it, and no song has really done that to me ever or since.

In some ways, it ruined music for me.

>After the album was assembled, Brian brought a complete acetate to Marilyn, who remembers, "It was so beautiful, one of the most spiritual times of my whole life. We both cried. Right after we listened to it, he said he was scared that nobody was going to like it. That it was too intricate."

This is so beautiful. I love Brian and the fact that he poured so much of himself into creating this masterpiece.

Teenagers think Pet Sounds is some kind of experimental emotional masterpiece when really it's just The Beatles 2 Faggotronic Boogaloo

I'm 28 years old, I'm probably older than the majority of people on /mu/. I've studied music theory in college for five years. I play more than five instruments including guitar and violin. I'm part if a rock duo and I perform monthly at various places. We've been working on an album since 2014. I think I know what I'm talking about.

To all you Pet Sounds fags, how much music theory do you know? What instruments do you play? I'm guessing none.
>>
>>70329005
do you have to be a classically trained music major to like it that much? I think it's good but it's not in my top 10.
>>
>>70330257
Yeah, I just presume that's what the other guy meant by ilk.
>>
>>70329479
>I'm obsessed with it, so it's better
Not how it works
>>
>>70330219
Brian is basically dead, he is a husk that can play piano if you sit him in front of one.
>>
>>70330469
I play guitar and know basic theory (especially related to blues) from lessons I took for about five years. I play live shows as a solo act during the summer at local clubs and venues. But I think you are wrong on a number of fronts. First of all, nobody thinks Pet Sounds is "experimental." Part of the appeal is its simple yet perfect pop melodies. They recall a sense of innocence and wonder that is clearly lost on you. "The Beatles 2 Faggotronic Boogaloo" is not a criticism. In my opinion, I think this album is more emotional and open-hearted than anything the Beatles put out. Just because you are musically experienced does not mean anything, in fact many of the music majors I know (who all play multiple interests and have advanced knowledge of musical theory) have absolutely atrocious taste. Compositionally, this album is beautifully and tastefully layered with compositions and instrumental variety that was incredibly ambitious for its time.

>I think I know what I'm talking about.
I don't

>>70330469
a) You're assuming a lot of things about a lot of different people

b) You're also assuming you need to be a musician, and a quai-accomplished one at that, to truly appreciate music.

Well you're wrong on both counts and you sound like a cunt. Good luck with your album though and I don't mean that sarcastically.

This to a tee. They're reddit-tier now, so everyone pretends /mu/ never liked Tame Impala. Hipsterfags are ruining this board.
