50 Cent fell off hard after the massacre but are we seriously acting like prime G-Unit didn't have one of the greatest runs in hip hop history? Every last project they were involved in from 1999-2005 was fire. They even somehow made Tony Yayos dumb ass put out a solid record.

The Documentary was only as great as it was because 50 handed him all of the major singles. Game would have never blown up without that one year he spent in G-Unit.

To be fair, even as a 50 stan I fully acknowledge that he fell of HARD after 2005 to the point where it can be difficult to believe that he was at one point crushing the rap game. Just avoid every G-Unit project after Dec 31, 2005 and you should be fine.

Yeah Game had only put out The Documentary at that point. This is the basic G-Unit timeline, as told by someone who followed their rise and fall closely as it was happening

>1998-2002
The underground period. 50 was quietly putting together his crew while releasing a string of classic mixtapes and building his legend on the streets of NYC.

>2003-2005
The G-Unit era. During this three year period, 50 cent and G-Unit essentially ran hip hop. First, 50 kicked things off with GRODT (a classic.) This was folllowed the first G-Unit group album, a powerful effort which established G-Unit's presence as a geunine rap crew as opposed to 50 cent's posse. Then, the other four members of G-Unit (Banks, Buck, Yayo, Game) released their debut albums, all of which were strong in terms of quality and commercial performance. Finally, 50 Cent caps off 2005 with a movie, a video game, a platinum movie soundtrack and his sophomore album (The Massacre) a fairly strong album which is still in the top 10 all time for first week sales.

(This is where everything, including the music, goes to shit)

>2006-2009
The decline. First off, Game (the strongest talent next to 50) leaves G-Unit due to the fact that they both have colossal egos and anger issues. Then, Banks and Buck follow up their debut albums with mediocre sophomore albums which failed to achieve the critical or commercial success of their initial efforts. Yayo pretty much gave up on life after 2005 so he released no studio albums after his initial debut. 50 sees this, and responds by signing a bunch of random assholes (Young Hot Rod, 40 Glocc, Spider Loc) who have no real talent or potential. He then decides to release his third album (Curtis) on the same day as Kanye's Graduation, promising to retire if he is outsold. Curtis sells quite well (691k in the first week), but receives mixed reviews and fails to match Graduation (or any of 50's previous efforts) critically or commercially.
