Can we discuss the best shoegaze album of 2017 so far?
>>70267072
Doesn't the guy who made this actively browse /mu/?
>>70267072
Bands who use keyboard instead guitars?
>>70267072
Yeah, The Orphean Lyre sure is great, huh?
>>70267072
Didn't the guy who made this also made this thread?
>>70267072
Doesn't the guy who made this also post this several times a day?
This was some pretty standard shoegaze if i remember correctly
>>70267533
Not sure
>>70267569
No, I did.
>>70267585
I haven't really seen this posted that often.
>>70268966
It's been posted in every /shugazi/ thread sonce it's release. And I remember a couple where it was posted twice.
hey friendos
i'm looking for more dancey shugazi, like some curve and soundpool
is there more
I unironically think this is a pretty great album
Blackgaze

>>70270247
Wait a second...
Slowdive has a twitter?
>>70267072
more like most generic
>>70267072
Just beacause you did not posted the name of the album:
Seance by Tangible Rays
>>70267072
Someone upload the 24bit flac or wav file already :^)
Any techno/house-influenced gaze or gaze-influenced house/techno?
Is there any other decent blackgaze album?
>>70270247
it means GET FUCKING HYPED
>>70271081
I wonder how it feels for the dude that made the album to see people pirating it on /mu/. I'd probably be happy if i was him desu
name please, google images search shows film Heat
I'm at a Les Discrets show and there's only metal fags here (it's a metal focused venue). Can't wait for them to complain
>>70271084
Just listen to Gas - Pop
>>70271138
Tangible Rays - Seance
>>70271084
bowery electric is the closest, gas is great too also all dubtechno
>>70268998
It's kind of a big deal desu
>>70271543
It's literally only talked about on /mu/ though. I quite like it but I haven't seen it in many places but here
>>70269848
Grow House was way noisier and less accessible. Seance is way more pop oriented IMO. Not sure which one I like more.
>>70270247
I hate Slowdive.
>>70271571
I've seen it on reddit too.
>>70271687
I searched it on reddit and only saw a post with 7 upvotes about it, its not very popular anywhere else
>>70267072
i just got into shoegaze 5 months ago and i fucking hate when youtube playlist features songs made in 2000's
>>70271998
its just more fascinating for me to hear old records that sound like they could've come out today, knowing people did it before it was "cool" or "accepted" and also used way less technology
>>70272098
idk after 1993, i don't think people thought shoegaze was very "cool" anymore
>>70272187
it never really got mainstream attention either
>>70272216
wasn't it quite popular after loveless und souvlaki doe?
>>70272241
"popular" as in people were listening to it - yes
popular as in big shows, magazine covers, record deals etc I think not
>>70272187
thats one of the eras im referring to as well, "when the sun hits" came out in 1995 if i'm not mistaken - and it sounds very different than most 90's pop/r&b i can remember.
i can't speak for early 2000's shoegaze (uninformed and unaware) but post 2010/tumblr/youtube stuff is where i lose interest
>>70272415
>different than most pop/r&b
doesn't like all shoegaze??

>>70272810
not really into that new cover
but it's cool they're reissuing it, i'm seeing them in february
>>70272570
i said 90's pop/r&b. as in 90's pop culture, when the "coolness" had waned off, remember???
>>70272681
oh ok, i must be thinking about the 2nd album that didn't do so well??? im going off of memory so i may have things all twisted
>>70271776
Loveless wasn't that popular when it first dropped either desu.
>>70273018
pretty sure mbv was pretty big as far as indie rock went after you made me realize came out
>>70273018

>>70273018
not sure if bait
>>70273364
I really doubt it with how much it's shilled in these threads as of recently. It's pretty generic sounding shoegaze, actually. So start shilling your uninventive music somewhere else, faggot.
>>70273403
it's probably some other guy shilling it
the tangible rays guy posts here, but i don't think he's the type to start comparing to to loveless or nothing
>>70273403
Im not the dude lol I just like how it combines lo-fi indie which is a genre I like, with shoegaze, which is a genre i like.
>>70273422
Why would someone else compare it to Loveless then? It's not horrible or anything, but it's not even what I would consider good. It's like a 5-6 out of 10. Who would defend it so hard if they're not the creator?
>>70273448
I still don't believe you.
>>70273455
people like to overrate obscure shit they like that's just what happens
>>70273448
>he's never seen lo-fi indie mixed with shoegaze
>>70273012
Their second album is Souvlaki, the album which "When The Sun Hits" is on, which came out in 1993, which is retrospectively their critical and commercial peak
>>70273497
>he's never seen lo-fi indie mixed with shoegaze
This. Here's some obscure indie shit that did it way better:

>>70273497

Does every album need to break ground to be good
>>70273579
thanks Ill check them out
>>70273509
ok, well that makes the 1995 album the third, which is the one i was referring to
also: i found this photo album on my device…looks like tumblr stuff but is any of it music???
>>70274179
this is quite possibly the worst baiting ive ever seen on this board anon
>>70274242

>>70270247
Didn't we already know that they were working on a new album?
Has anyone here seen slowdive live recently?
Do they play new shit or what?
>>70272241
Not really. Loveless was an underground hit on release, it didn't really get huge attention for a while.
Souvlaki was in a similar situation, and their debut record sold better than it did at release.
>>70273422
>the tangible rays guy posts here, but i don't think he's the type to start comparing to to loveless or nothing
This. I've chatted with Rob on a couple occasions about recording/music/etc, he is an extremely chill and humble dude. I highly doubt he is behind any of this shilling.
>>70275523
nice try rob
>>70271146
Wish LD would come to the US, hyped for the new album especially if they include more trip-hop stuff like the new song
What album is this? Call me a normie. Don't care.
>>70277343
Tangible Rays - Seance
you're not a normie for not knowing it, but this question has been asked 2 times already in this thread, so you could have just looked ;/
>>70277384
Thank you, good sir. Is it any good? _/10?
>>70277414
It's actually aotysf not just shoegaze aotysf
>>70278159
>aotysf
You think so? I gotta give it a listen as soon as I get out of class.
>>70278226
I gave it a 7/10, really comfy
>>70278226
I expect it'll get knocked out on Friday though. Care - Luv In Ruins is the strong runner up right now I think.
>>70278308
As a lover of shoegaze, I really need to do my homework lmao
>>70278390
Luv In Ruins isn't shoegaze if I accidentally implied that. Cold Body Radiation is the only other shoegaze I know of this year and it's only about half shoegaze at most. Still really good though.
>>70278434
Oh? What is Luv like then?
>>70278468
For lack of a better word I've just been calling it indie rock
>>70278226
I guess you could call it my aotysf, but then again it's only 2 weeks into the year
Any good 2016 shoegaze, I only have Kinoko Teikoku.
>>70278989
Never heard of psub? The follow-up to their 2015 album which took the world by storm?
>>70269247
AR Kane was involved in the British dance scene that was prominent around the same time, I suggest their singles collection.
Also the new Autolux is fairly dancy.
>>70267551
bump for this. recc me the essential synth-gaze
>>70271108
you got it backwards. this is decent but there are so many better albums.
>>70267551

>>70279242
I really liked that new Autolux, seems like not many people talked about it on here.
>>70267072

Not even joking.
>>70281742
It's January 11 man, that's not saying much.
>>70281742
not even AOTD
>>70267533
yeah i saw him post this in a bandcamp thread
what a legend
>tfw from now on tangible rays can never be sincerely talked about
nice fucking job
can someone recommend me more like rocketship or black tambourine
and don't even think about saying pains of being pure at heart
>>70272810
i've had my preorder for like 2 months now
by the way is eccsame a grower? i heard it a while back and it didn't seem that special to me
>>70282501
Eccsame connected more immediately for me than Presence did. It's less shoegazey and dense but I like it more.
miss these guys...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho2zMsVVCXw
>>70282498
>What did he mean by this
>>70282552
claire hates me is probably the most immediate song on either one imo
i'll listen to eccsame again soon though
>>70282648
I mean people are gonna be claiming shill every time it's brought up even though people on here were listening to him since he was still called Grow House and the real reason we're talking about Seance this much right now is because it's like one out of the two 2017 shugazi albums that were even aware of.
>>70282679
idk for me i guess it a more on that eccsame leans less towards that sort of 90s guitar pop style
The best shoegaze
>shoegaze group talks about only shoegaze album for entire year so far
>omg stop shilling
>>70282726
Also because it's the general aotysf. Go ahead name a better album.
WILL SEANCE SURVIVE FRIDAY?
>>70284808

What the fuck is this horrible mix/master job? It sounds like a fucking mess. I bet the waveform just looks like a straight rectangle.
>>70271110
Someone replied to this yesterday just saying "Star Roving" and I had no idea what it meant. How did they know? Why did they delete?
>>70287348
I'm mildly concerned for the album since the mix on this is ridiculously narrow, but I'm hoping that's just an oversight on their part in the single release
This shit sounds too good to suffer from bad mixing
>>70287348
I don't really mind the clipping in the guitars. I just kinda see it like glittering but sharp shards of glass in a sea of haze, if I may get overly pictorial about it. I still hope that the new album has some quiet Pygmalion-esque post rock somewhere in it though.
>>70287493
>>70287348
shut up retards
>>70287597
Sorry, we'll go back to shilling the Tangible Rays album now because god forbid these threads talk about anything else
I literally just bought the song off their bandcamp to see the waveform. Fucking awful. No dynamics whatsoever in the loud parts, mix brickwall compressed within an inch of it's life, audibly clipping and disorted at times.
I put the 1993 CD version of "When the Sun Hits" underneath for comparison.
gib flac
>>70287660
What are chances they'll re-record the song for the album? Like zero, right?
>>70287673
buy it yourself. it's $1. they deserve your support.
>>70287693
sadly, yes.
>>70267072

>>70287284

>>70287772

>>70287306
>>70287284

>>70287284
More like Slowdiiv amirite
>tfw /mu/ is giving me shit (calling me "autistic", "retarded", "faggot") because I said that Star Roving was poorly mastered and posted the waveform
>they're literally saying "hurr it's supposed to be heavily compressed/clipped/distorted, it's shoegaze retard"
Sometimes I forget I'm on a board with actual 15 year olds
>>70287947
90% sure it's just one or two guys
>>70287947
I get your point, and you're not wrong, but you really should stop greentexting. That was utterly painful to read.
>>70287996
Motherfucker I'm drunk and it's 5 AM. I'll do what I damn well please.
I'm excited for the new album.
I'm also going to copy/paste this post in the other thread like everyone else in a hot minute.
Anyone have that shoegaze flow chart handy?
>>70288037
>someone else copy-pasted my reply in /shugazi/ to the slowdive thread
idk how to feel right now
>>70287306
Slowdive is easily my favorite of the big three by a mile but that was honestly pretty underwhelming. Still excited for new material but I'm hoping that ends up as the weakest track or it won't bode well for their legacy. Not that it's bad, but I can already feel myself forgetting it.
>>70287774
Here you go, anon.
https://growhouse.bandcamp.com/album/seance
>>70287306
i think its good, it doesnt touch souvlaki or pygmalion but i like it
>>70288062
as long as it sounds good and enjoyable,it's enough for me
after 22 years and self releasing an album,I dont think. the expectations should not be set really high
the track is nice but the production needs something more vibrant and dynamic,I hope in the future they remaster it
btw,is Ride also self releasing their new album on Bandcamp?
>>70273579

It's going to sound like shit, its on YouTube for fucks sake, but I get it, Autists don't understand the difference between distortion as an effect and distortion as a result of clipping.
But I find it strange you came to this thread to vent about it instead of posting in the other one.
Thought the new slowdive track was pretty uninspired.
Anyone like this album? Also looking for some ethereal wave recs
>>70269904

>>70287947

>>70287348
I remember hearing in that p4k documentary about souvlaki that slowdive didn't really know how to produce, even on their first album, and all they really did was turn everything up all the way. Then they tried to record Alison and it didn't sound right so they brought in a guy who actually knew what he was doing and it sounded great after that.

shoegaze = easy mode pop.
you dont need to have lyrics, or be in tune, only one member of the band needs basic rhythm.
>>70297645
>>70296600
Yeah I got flashbacks to that last EP from this
>>70288202
It's just so goddamn generic. After Pygmalion and the Mojave 3 stuff they can do better
>>70297645
being in tune is pretty important idk about that
people always say adding reverb or shoegaze effects is just like adding decoration to an otherwise bland song, or rather that the song is bland because of that.
the thing is, if its still bland after adding all those effects, then it's not really the fault of the genre being easy, more just that the song is bad either way. people just don't have taste in good 'gaze
also pop is already easy mode
>>70287284
It's pretty good.
I don't think I can think of a Slowdive song I didn't really like. Just ones I find more pleasing than others.
>>70298654
that's kind of how a feel about most shoegaze
not saying slowdive is doing that here, but i just eat all this shoegaze shit up even when i can tell they're phoning it in
but something really great comes along, it's like holy shit
>>70299086
just gotta be critical
>>70299086
I get this. As much as I love even the most generic shoegaze, I feel like only about three albums are really unique enough to stand on their own outside of my general appreciation of the genre.

and we have to include pic related
>>70301254

I discovered them through Decibel Magazine's aoty list so after discussing that I asked him if he had an aotysf to which of course he looked at me like I was fucking insane.

anyways, how do you base your /shugazi/ listening? like, how do you rate it? i mean, all the shoegaze ive listen so far all have the same things. distortion, dreamy vocals, slow drum beat, so how do you separate the albums you like and albums you not? im just curious

Just finished. It was awesome, grabs your attention rly well. my favorite was Sweet Oddysee. The last track was too long though

Of it does something well be it songwriting, groove, texture, riffs, anything really, I save it. There's enough variety among bands that it's worth it to have a huge collection of shugazi related stuff.
I think the people that go off on how everything sounds like MBV aren't paying enough attention or are just baiting.

Neither band has anything to do with shoegaze.
Please report back to Music 101 for remedial training.

Slowdive named a song Rutti.
What does anything mean, basically? is Dream Pop.
