c'mon son

jdilla >madlib >>>> death grips
death grips superfan btw
No competition for me. But Dilla would lean more using fender rhodes type melodies on his beats that resonate in my head forever.
I mean just listen to the intro on fantastic vol 2 and I promise it will stay with you forever.
the production on further adventures of lord quas is better than anything j dilla ever put out

madlib, especially if you count for quasimoto, yesterday's new quintet, lootpack and all of his collaborations. I appreciate the variety. but then again I probably listen to dilla more often
also the narrative around dilla kinda rubs me the wrong way because it seems a lot of people just like him because he died and "dilla changed my life" is a nice, consumable slogan. what's weird is that most of the people who do this are only familiar with donuts and the shining, and never listen to slum village or his other millions of releases
madlib cuz he's still alive
if dilla hadn't OD'd on purple drank the story would be different

I'm the same way. Like people use his name as to credit their hipster knowledge. But in the end, I'd rather hear people say "dilla changed my life" than "if young metro dont trust you".

true, if you're gonna posture at least do it with something good
>>70260599
Dilla died of a blood disease, Pimp C died from purple drink.

I hear more people use Madlib's name for hipster cred just because they've heard Madvillainy or Pinata desu
Dilla is probably more influential but Madlib's sampling seems a lot more eccentric and interesting to me so it's a toss-up
I actually consider Madvillainy and Donuts to both be in my top ten albums but have never heard any of their other work, where should I go next?

for madlib:
>shades of blue
>collabs with guilty simpson and freddie gibbs
>all quasimoto
>lootpack
>if you like all that try yesterdays new quintet
most of the beat konducta stuff is worth listening to as well, then he has a shitload of other releases I haven't listened to
for dilla:
>the shining
>welcome 2 detroit
>vol 2
>jay stay paid
>jay love japan
>dillanthology compilations
>skip rebirth of detroit because it's a scam
and of course jaylib. pretty much in that order for each, I guess
also you should get into pete rock. I know he's already a legend from pete rock and cl smooth, but his solo stuff doesn't get enough credit. soul survivor and petestrumentals are as good as anything I just listed

dj screw too, lean out here taking all our htown heroes
>>70260543
this is true, but i would say donuts is about a tie
Madlib's tribute to J Dilla is better than anything Dilla put out
Madlib simply because without him there would be no Madvillain.
