Stravinsky is by far one of my favorite composers, but I haven't explored much classical. Besides Stravinsky I've heard Franck's Symphony in D Minor, Beethoven's 5th symphony, Berio's Rendering and Echoing Curves, Mozart's concertos, some Chopin, and some Debussy. Out of those listed, my favorites are Berio, Franck, and Mozart. Do you have any classical recs based on that?
>>70251518
If you like Mozart but have only heard concertos, you really need to listen to Symphony 41 (Jupiter). It's really spectacular.
i'm too sleepy to look at charts rn sorry ignore me
>>70251518
i don't know about classical tho. I recced It because you said you hadn't listened to it. But i guess that if it's piano stuff, Erik Satie makes some amazing stuff (ask >>70251311) besides that, Julius Eastman's Unjust Malaise is very very good minimalism, and Shostakovich's Babi Yar is amazing, i think that you will like It off you like Stravinsky.
>>70251518
Not him, but what was it about that stuff that you liked? I could throw some recs your way.
Whachall think?
>>70251150
Fuck yes Sally Shapiro
please recs please
I just wish there was a good place to find new and interesting music. I'm always listening to new music but I never seem to find anything that I feel is a new favorite or something.
>>70251776
I liked that Berio's composition was atonal and constantly mutating. It felt like it had dozens of moving parts. I liked the dynamics of Franck's work. It sounded like it moved on a theme, but it has a nice blend of intense moments and soft moments. Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring and Firebird both felt huge, with a similar dynamic aspect to Franck, but I prefer Stravinsky's execution. My main reason for liking Mozart is his sheer virtuosity. The way piano is used in his work sounds like it requires so much technical skill.

>>70252178
I'd agree with >>70251564 that you should listen to the Jupiter symphony. If you want to see Mozart at his most brilliant, it's there, especially the fourth movement.
Some random introductory pieces you may like, mostly from the early 20th century, since I suspect you'll like that stuff.:
>Ravel - String Quartet in F
He's often lumped with Debussy, but I generally think of him as being a little less flowery and a little more experimental. Still very impressionistic though. It's for a small size of performers, but it's wonderfully intricate and engrossing.
>Dvorak - Symphony No. 9 "From the New World"
This is a standard way to get into some early 20th c classical music. It's a great symphony with a lot of interesting elements, some nice themes. The last movement is a ton of fun.
>Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 3
If you like the virtuosity of Mozart, the intensity of Frank, and the hugeness of Stravinsky, you probably should get acquainted with Rach. His piano concerts are massive.
>Grieg - Piano Concerto in A minor
Another fun piano concerto. Great themes, lots of emotion.
>Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue
When classical composition and piano virtuosity meets 20's jazz.
>Holst - The Planets
If you're just starting out, you'd probably really love this suite. Huge orchestral sounds, lots of evocative themes.
>Bernstein - Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Lots of great rhythmic complexity. Lots of sonic complexity with dissonance and harmony. As high energy as it gets.
BONUS:
If you want to jump off the deep end, check out
>Ligeti - Atmospheres
You wont like it at first, but it'll open your eyes to how crazy things can get. It may spur you on to dig deeper into classical music.
