Yeah. Just blew me away. Heartfelt, beautiful instrumentation and production. It might be because I know nothing about country music, but I like it a lot.
Have to agree with your choice OP
Monitoring this thread because I feel like i missed out on a lot of good 2016 releases, and currently feel that it was a meh year

>he fell for the black music meme
Oh wow
The new Suffocate For Fuck Sake crept up on my list the more I listened to it. It didn't immediately floor me like Blazing Fires did but I now think it's equal in quality. Follows a strong narrative and manages to use screamo in a very beautiful context, which is almost more rewarding than a more post-rock sound, where it's not exactly hard to make heartwrenching sounds. It's a shame because NO ONE seemed to even know it was released, I know BF&H has a lot of fans.
The Glowing Man also stood the test of the time, I think it's the best of the trilogy.
Memegrips
I'm just gonna say this one because I didn't like it last year but now I do

I second this
EAsily the best I've heard this year.

Our nigga died for this
(It would've been AOTY even if he didn't die don't worry)
not a common opinion on /mu/ but this album did it for me in every way
No one can argue with this.

Either this or The Glowing Man. Sucks, as I'm a huge Katatonia fan but The Fall Of Hearts simply was not one of my favorites from them. Was really hoping that would be my 2016 AOTY.
Love this. Its strange hearing from the Gerogerigegege again. Its probably the last album they will drop but hopefully we will get more.

This
But of course.

Same. The Fall of Hearts was pretty disappointing after the GCD, Night and DEK hot streak. It's a really slow burner though, gets better with every listen. Could become one of my favorites from them in 10 years who knows.
I'm a sucker for DsO

I'll agree that it gets better with each listen - I struggled to stay awake on my first one but I can sit through it fine now. I guess my issue with it is that it's too transient. For me, the band was at their best when they didn't dance around with the imagery and just gut punched you with melancholy, which they did effortlessly up through NITND. DEK began to move away from that, got a bit more ethereal from where the last two already were but even then it was still a tight, focused record. TFOL is generally lighter still, 20 minutes longer and just all over the place with its dynamics and composition. It's never samey but it's a step up from glorified background music to me at this point, very little about it actually sticks with me. Pale Flag is the only song that hits me like a Katatonia song ought to, though I do have a slight preference for some songs like Residual or Takeover as well.
WWWINGS - Phoenix
Young Thug - Slime 3
LOFT - Turbulent Dynamics
DJWWWW - Arigato
