Mine isn't smelly, and you haven't presented any information as to why you find it perturbing by calling it gross. I would argue that the majority of the time, the majority of the people who I interact with have clean pit hair which probably smells more like their soap of choice than any sort of sweat or bacteria.

I don't find it gross (unless the person who has it is gross, i.e. doesn't wash their body regularly or has some sort of disorder which makes them sweaty at all times, etc.) because there simply isn't anything gross about it. It is a natural patch of hair whose purpose is to reduce friction between the patches of skin which come into contact in the area it grows, as far as I can tell.

By this logic you may find that many of the things you might call gross are actually pretty natural and often healthy or useful parts of being human.
