Was the internet a good or bad thing for music in general?
good
Good.
It makes it way easier for smaller artists to get noticed.
Napster era good
Current time, almost total death knell

wow thanks for that cool® opinion™ trip-friendo! glad to be sharing a board with such top-quality posters!
Bad. It killed all scenes. It's like a tranquilizer for art. It encouraged consumerism. The invention of Spotify and streaming services limited, not expanded, people's tastes, because now they only listen to fucking tame impala

it somehow fixed and ruined everything at the same time
pros: there's never been so much freely available
cons: there's too much freely available
Thanks to the internet, small artists make their music known. Its an incredible tool that people should utilize to discover incredible music. Sadly, not everyone takes advantage of this incredible tool known as the internet.

I agree that it has killed all music scenes. Thanks to spotify and other services, I can listen to some many different musicians
I think it's good. I wouldn't have been exposed to anywhere near as much stuff without it and I genuinely wonder what I'd be listening to now without the internet.

At least wait for the tripfag to do something stupid before letting him have it.

Don't be ridiculous, of course people do. However not everyone can "make it" man, it's just impossible, even if they are good. I guarantee they're probably doing better than they would be without the internet.
Saturation is obviously a problem, but if they have something unique and outstanding going for them they have a better chance getting noticed and making some money than they would have with no internet.
The age of music as a spiritual path and lifestyle is over, 15 year old republicans will mindlessly listen to Coil and Stockhausen on spotify
