pretty much go by ear, occasionally slot in some applied chords when I have to modulate back to the tonic or am forced to go to a specific key.

Doing harmony better is something I need to work on, often guilty of harmonic stagnation.

I wrote two 2-part inventions a couple of years ago and they're both terrible
I would crash and burn with a fugue before getting out of the exposition
