is slowdive dream pop or shoegaze and what is shoegaze
>>
I hear rumours that 2017 is gonna be the best year for shoegaze since 2013.
What are some bands to keep an eye on?
And where do I go too keep up with releases?
>>
>>70086837
New Slowdive, Ride, KAIRON; IRSE, possibly new MBV is the short answer.
>>
can i get more like this? I alrady listened to turnover and pity sex before you say it. i just want some hardcore influenced dream pop
>>
>>70087207
New JAMC too but that single was BAD. I'm worried about Slowdive and Ride desu

Creation records has been saying there will be a release. No specifics about whether it's new or what but they say it's a thing.

Kevin isn't going to let a shoegaze revival happen without him after MBV "failed" to start one.
>>
>>70087376
It seems to me that every time fans bump into him and ask he says there's work being done on something
>>
Anyone got that chart with all the shit we voted for being best shoegaze albums of the 2010s so far?

Does dreamy just mean gentle or psychedelic and gentle? Cause I'm not sure how psychedelic that first Broadcast album is

I'm relatively optimistic about the Slowdive. They sounded great this last tour, and the side projects are still strong, so they have it in them.

Don't expect much from the new Ride but I'm not really a big fan of theirs anyways.

Don't forget that Lift to Experience is back together and they are remixing the album with a much larger budget, releasing their first EP that is impossible to get a hold of, and perhaps making some new music if we are lucky.
http://mute.com/mute/the-texas-jerusalem-crossroads

"We went back to the studio, neck deep in the heart of Texas, where Lift recorded The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads – remixing the album the way it should have be mixed originally. It’s good to have our balls back after years spent being castrated.”

I'm always skeptical on remixes but with remarks like this and the album being so terribly mixed at certain points, I'm pretty hype.

Also listen to Tangible Rays if you haven't yet.

>that new cover

>>
>>70094084
Yeah, somehow shittier than the old one if possible.
Kind of love it though, it's a beautiful album based on a poem a man wrote about his religion. You would expect a minimalistic cover or at least something a little classy but instead you get a southern hiphop cover with bling and shit.
There's a boxset coming out of the represses and I emailed them about the packaging, which I assume is going to be shit.

Psychedelic music usually conveys a certain mood or atmosphere. It's meant to put your mind in a certain place. Broadcast is psychedelic because of the abstract nature of the lyrics and the droning, dream-like nature of the instrumentals. "Dreamy," to me at least, means that listening to it makes you feel like you could be in a dream. Not necessarily that it's just "gentle."
>>
>>70095709
It's actually really good. I'm impressed at the evolution from the first album, the guitar sound is dead nuts, the vocals are great, and there's not a bad track on there.

I feel like Bloom is by far Beach House's worst album, and it isn't even that bad.
Pretty bad having that many of their albums on their desu, Fluorescence also has no business being on there it's way too poppy.
Would be better if the Asobi Seksu x Boris split was on there.

After my bitching I would recommend Smiling Disease, it's bedroom dreampop from a guy who used to be on here.
Haven't heard from him or his project in a long time, chill stuff though.

>>
>>70100413
>That's Thank Your Lucky Stars though
Wrong, pretty on par with Depression Cherry, both behind Teen Dream.
Bloom has a few really high highs but overall is very inconsistent, I really never could understand why people like it so much.

>>70100388
Regarding my post here I just learned Smiling Disease was by a woman, and how the description was I don't think she'll make anything for a while, at least solo.

https://memorialsofdistinction.bandcamp.com/album/beach-bodies-2008-2014

>>70100448
That cover is even worse than the old cover, has more of a hiphop feel.
I suggest just growing up and listening to it, I was put off from Deerhoof's Milk Man cover for years and just recently gave it a chance. The album was great. At least listen to the following track.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lhvX-Ba5kc

Also while just listening to the album I read the song titles as a two part poem, is that a thing or am I being stupid?

>Just as was told, down came the angels falling from cloud 9, with crippled wings waiting to hit the ground so soft
>These are the days when we shall touch down with the prophets, to guard and to guide you into the storm

Has this been obvious the whole time or am I reaching, not sure.
>>
>>70100524
>desperate for more shoegaze/meal hybrids then give it a shot.
>meal
Not at all. It's shoegaze through and through, just less intense and more droning/atmospheric like 90's shoegaze as opposed to modern.
>>
>>70100544
>both behind Teen Dream

im actually having an ethical dilemma here. On one hand I feel like I should have just waited for someone to upload this to mega so I could get it for free, but on the other I really think $7 is a fair price for the album and I kind of want to support them a little. Hopefully bandcamp gives a decent enough cut to the artist.
>>
>>70101086
It does. 85% goes the artist, which is really high compared to average royalty deal which is around ~20% for CDs.
>>
>>70101086
Do it. If you wanna pay you should. Bandcamp is a great platform and the artist gets most of the money.

I don't think this really justifies pirating, just shows how little artists make from their work.
Best case is to buy direct from the artist at a show but buying it anywhere that isn't second hand gets at least some of the money to the artist and I think it's reason enough to pay for music.
>>
>>70104968
I'm not talking about pirating at all, I'm just giving anon's info on what the best ways to support an artist are.
I pirate all my albums and if I listen to it a few times I buy the album directly from the label, and then maybe a shirt or merch if I REALLY love it.
>>
>>70104979
Ok, I've only seen this chart used to justify pirating.
I buy as often as I can, regularly stream, and buy merch if it looks good. I understand streaming isn't that great but I'd rather fail at trying to make it profitable for an artist than disregard it entirely.
>>
>>70105043
>I'd rather fail at trying to make it profitable for an artist than disregard it entirely.
Most of the music I listen to isn't on stream services.
I also feel the use of streaming services will guide you toward listening to artists that are only on streaming services.
Also fuck streaming sites, adding to their wealth is a direct way of saying "it's okay how little you give to the artist!".

I much rather pirate music and buy it if I like it, that way I'm not supporting a corrupt part of the industry that is leeching of talent.
Bitches don't even have Prince or even uncensored plunderphonics.
>>
>>70098008
I remember I posted in some shoegaze fb group about where I can illegally download some Barlow, cuz I'm poor.
