Alone because: I just moved back to my home town after traveling all around and living other places for the past 2 years. I don't feel very close or connected to my old friends here. I didn't even before I left. So I'm not trying too hard to be friends with them anymore. Gonna be making new friends once classes start next week, and once I find a job. Group runs with the local running club have already introduced me to some new people. I'm really looking forward to this next year. Living a normal life with one solid constant home; I'm especially excited for the close relationships and community that will come with that. I'm tired of being a nomad and I'm so happy to be here.

So that's why I'm fine with being alone this new year. Sure I'd rather spend it with some close friends or a girl I'm in love with but I have none of those things right now, but I'm going to be getting them in the next year.

Overall, this is a huge improvement over last year. See, my girlfriend and I had been broken up for a month when I got in my car and headed for the deserts of the Southwest to live out of my car and go run trails in the desert all winter. By new years I wasn't to the desert yet...I'd been running trails and living in the dark rainy west coast winter. I drove through San Francisco, and headed south of hte city to find a place I could legally camp for free in my car. Couldn't find a spot. Ended up parking in a residential street in Monterey, CA, read a book by headlamp, and was asleep by 9. A few days later I'd find out that my ex had blown some random guy at a party.
