The ultimate 'Fuck You I Like Them' thing you can wear. Literally everyone who looks at them, wishes they were you, wishes you would die, or wishes Apple would die and you would die. Yeah, I spent 250 dollars on these. Yeah I could have bought M50x and a pair of Nike Airs. I already got Nike Airs college student dipshit.

Bitch, I am getting good fucking sound, across a football field, for 30-50 hours and all in sexy-ass gloss black. So, kiss my ass Sennheiser or Bose or Audio Technica from Sweden or some shit, this is Trumps America. Not Germany, not Europe, these cans are imagined by a black man and engineered by motherfucking Apple in Cupertino, California and made by broke ass third worlders. The American Way.

Now get out of my American Way I am wirelessly jamming to Danny Brown and picking up my latte.

How do they sound? I'm a poorfag so I wouldn't understand the hate they get and they sounded fine in a store demo for a minute.
>>
>>70019607
Well different anon here but I have a pair as well, I have the sort of tan beige color with wood finish, besides appearances, they have a ALL around in my opinion balanced sound perfect for most musics, games, home entertainment, or whatever occupational dilly dallying you may be doing. Overall for the price tag I'd give them a 8.5/10, having open end headphones does have its drawbacks, even more if you're not in a dead silence environment. I'd recommend them for anyone on somewhat a budget but doesn't want to jeapordise any home listening experiences.

>>
>>70025398
Easy to talk online when you're wrong.

You're talking out of your ass.

I'm a sound engineer/designer you idiot.
>>
>>70025631
It depends what headphones you're coming from. I came from the Sennhesier 650s. The bass is sharper and more succinct and the treble is leagues better. But it still isn't worth ~$450 for an upgrade like that.

If you're coming from lower end headphones, I could not reccommened these enough. The sound stage is incredible and sometimes so good that it makes me want to cry.

They are open end headphones, so no noise cancellation. This provides the best sound possible. If you don't buy an amp, they are loud enough, but I don't suggest doing that.
>>
>>70024673

Enjoy paying 3 grand for headphones that aren't comfortable.
>>
>>70024625

The HD650 really aren't that "flat" sounding. They're pretty even handed in the grand scheme of things, but they're definitely a little bit on the dark side in the treble and have a mild hump in the midbass. The midrange is nice and straight-line, though, which is really what you want.

What I'm getting at is they're definitely not a critical listening monitor headphone or something, they're first and foremost made for listening pleasure. They just do so without resorting to nigger bass or retarded treble spikes. Some of us like things pretty balanced sounding.
>>
>>70025405
they're only 50ohms impedence so should sound fine
>>
Does anyone here mod their headphones? I have some akg k240's and I want to pimp them out
>>
Are the HD700s good at all?
No one ever seems to recommend them.
>>
>>70027803

They're HD800: Lame Edition.

If you want that kind of analytical sound either go all the way and get the HD800 or just get DT880 instead.

There's really no reason to go much beyond Sony MDR's. After that, headphones return diminish massively.

As long as you're not overpaying they're genuinely good for what they are.

I have pic related (Sennheiser PX100ii) which are kind of just a somewhat better, somewhat more expensive headphone in the same vein. I'd recommend either heartily, they're both classic super-portable, open on ear workhorses that will smash the shit out of earbuds without taking up much more space (they both fold up, the senn folds up more compactly, though).

My recommendation is to go for the senn if you have the extra money. Can't go wrong with the Koss, though.

I've had a pair for like 10 years now. I like them for the $25 I paid for them, but you could do better for the price now that they sell for double that.

/mu/, who are supposed "music fans," need to further embrace audiophilia.

Since the Chins is filled with young and "tech savvy" people, it boggles my mind that you faggots have little problem dumping 2K into a gaymin PC to experience high fidelity of shitty games, but skimp on audio equipment.

Audiophile starter guide:

Headphones. Only should be used as a last resort if your living situation demands it. Completely inferior in every way to speakers (even micro-detail resolution). Speakers in "bad rooms" also trump headphones. Makes no sense that the children over on /g/ have Headphone generals daily but speaker discussion is rare. Makes me think everyone there must live in a fuckin' shoebox.

Your favorite slav torrent sites and private trackers likely won't have the best masters of music available. So yep. Time to spend more money and invest in a SACD player and then seek out MFSL, DCC, DVD-A, and Blu-Ray Audio versions of the albums you want.

More speakers. Needed for the variety of great 5.1 mixes out there. I can't take anyone seriously as a "music fan" who hasn't heard something like Vespertine in 5.1. And for classical fans, nearly anything you can think of has a 5.1 mix.

This should get you started. Good luck.

I've had a pair of Koss over-ear headphones for about 3 years now. They sound great, but the plastic on the cushions has been flaking, and the glue holding them in place is visible and starting to flake off as well. I would post a pic, but I've long forgotten the model number, and I recall not being able to find an Amazon page or even a listing on the Koss website when I did have it. I might look to replace them in the near-future, but until then, as long as they fit on my head then I'm fine. Ideally I'm looking for something in the $20-$30 range- I was looking at either another pair of Koss or maybe the Sennheiser HD 202 II.

Daily reminder that M40s are better.

This. The brand itself isn't the problem.

Anyhow I've been using these >>70028565
Phillips SHP9500 for a while now and love them. Great open back headphones.
>>
Are Philips headphones actually good? Philips has a shit reputation here in the Netherlands.

I have the m50x, what is the next step in sound quality? I listen to death metal almost exclusively

anything
>>
>>70038478
HD 650s or Fidelio X2s are noticeably better without costing too much. Get the X2s if you can't be bothered with amp/dac setups.
>>
>>70019436
Do these stay comfortable after a few hours? The headphones I've got at the moment are great but after about an hour they're painful enough that I have to switch to crappy in ear apple ones.

Just upgraded from my ATH-M50s that I had for about five years. Not sure if I can ever go back to closed back headphones now as these are fucking amazing.

Not him, but memes aside could you or someone else explain exactly why beats are apparently so shit? I was given a used pair (perfect condition) for Christmas and all my other headphones died on their own, so the whole "not worth the money thing" doesn't matter to me. What exactly makes their sound quality inferior to another pair that would cost <200$ (the price range I would go with if i were to replace them).

Have had these for...4 years? Can't remember. No complaints, they're really good intro phones.

I'm gonna be getting some Hifiman HE400i's soon, though, with some sort of Schiit dac/amp. P excited for that
>>

about a step or two better than skullcandies
>>
whats the opinion on m40fs?
>>
>>70049385
I would suggest not to buy hifiman.
>>
>>70049611

Why not, friend? Everyone who has a pair seems to like them pretty well, especially with a decent amp/dac
>>
>>70049693
I mean, yes, their headphones sound pretty good, and they offer the cheapest planar tech.

Problem with them is their shadiness and awful customer service. If some time passes and something is wrong with your HE400i, which is bound to happen since their quality control isn't stellar, they'll either neglect you or just won't be helpful enough.

The other day they were offering their customers a chance to win some headphones or some shit if they gave their HE1000 a 5 star review on amazon, they'll probably get banned for this.

I'd do some research about this on plebbit, they've been talking about this shit.
>>
>>70034615
because you need an amp/dac combo for actual audiophile headphones so like $400 minimum
>>
>>70050066

I knew they were Chinese, so I wasn't expecting much in customer support. Still disappointing to hear that.
Is there an alternative in the $250 range that you'd recommend, instead? Used HD650 maybe? DT880?

>spending more than $20 on headphones
>hurr durr the point of diminishing returns only starts at $200 or so xD

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OP in >>70028204 is correct, I don't care if you spent $10, $150, $300, $1000, or $5000 on your headphones: my studio monitors blow them the fuck out at a fraction of the cost, and they don't need an extra $200+ worth of super special fancy DACs and amps (that all supposedly totally sound wayyyy different from each other (not true, actually))

to sound good either

Headphones are also bad for your hearing even at low volumes I don't care what anyone says.
>>
>>70050336
Sennheiser HD650 or Fidelio X2.
>>
>>70050336
I haven't heard much in that range, what I have are HD 25-1s if we are talking about $200ish cans. They are my portable headphones, these >>70047574 are my main.

I guess if you like the Sennheiser signature you can't go wrong with the 650s, but then again, remember, it's all about what you like.

Ideal scenario, you get tot ry different pairs and make your own conclusions. If you want to go the Hifiman route, it's up to you, I just wanted to give you a heads up cause plenty of people have been complaining.

You then have the option to go with Beyer like you said, AKG, or even Grado if you fancy that sig.
>>
>>70051263
You are absolutely retarded if this isn't bait.
>>
>>70034615
Maybe you're just retarded and fucked your hearing because that price difference is the most noticeable.
>>
>>70051442

I'd love to try them all out, but there's just about no hifi shops around me, so for now I'm stuck with approximating sound sigs via online demos. Thanks for the recs, m8.

And I appreciate the heads up, I probably won't be buying anything from them (new, anyway, maybe used). Terrible practice they've got

>>70051419

Thanks for the recs. The X2s seem pretty Vshaped to me, and not terribly clear at that, but maybe that's just the demos I've heard.
>>
>>70051665
I didn't try the Senns when I first bought them, either, loved them still. They do benefit from an amp, I hate driving them with my phone.

I hope you get some cans you love.

He's right.

A pair of 300.00 JBL LSR305s will pretty much stomp any headphone, regardless of price, in performance.

Headphones are nice for their "intimacy," portability, and not bothering others, but speakers are just flat out better (soundstage, dynamics, realism, imaging, and detail).
>>
>>70028565
>>70037919
Also using the SHP9500s. Picked them up on sale for like $52 shipped from newegg about a month ago.

At first i thought they sounded bad, but with a tiny bit of bass boost from my sound card they sound so fucking amazing. Only issue is onboard sound card cant really power them real loud. Not an issue with the headphones per say, but i definitely would recommend an amp with them.

That said, looking for a cheap amp at the moment. Something that isnt going to degrade the audio quality any. im a broke bitch so its going to be a challenge.
>>
>>70052006
I'm not talking about the monitors, I can't argue that, I'm talking and saying $20 and $200 headphones are pretty much the same.
>>
>>70052074
Not that guy, but i disagree with this.

Build quality on $20 headphones is going to be far inferior to a more expensive pair.

Exception: beats. Build quality still sucks even at $200 or wjhatever they cost these days.
>>
>>70052074
>I can't argue that, I'm talking and saying $20 and $200 headphones are pretty much the same.

He's not "totally wrong" in a sense.

I would put a pair of 99.00 Sony MDRs against Senn 800s. The Senns will out soundstage them and probably beat them in dynamics (the MDRs might win on imaging and accuracy), but the difference won't be so dramatic that you'll feel even half justified spending nearly 10 times more.

But yeah, I don't think there's a giant killer pair of 20.00 cans out there.
>>
>>70052537
I have heard 7506s and I honestly think they don't hold a candle to my TH-X00, let a lone an HD800
