What does /mu/ think of The National?
personally I find it boring, lacking emotional power

Shit.
I like them. Their mellow and melancholic songs is just perfect for autumn and winter.

I'd say songs like Abel, Mr November, Terrible Love etc are full of emotional power
People sometimes have this perception of them as a very serious band but my favourite thing about them is the dark and odd humour that's in a lot of the lyrics.
Also the drumming is very fun and inventive

My wife's son loves them

The Microphones already cornered the market on autumn.

music for rich white young adults

That can't be right.
I am that and I think they're shit.
One of my friends said he liked them and I totally sperged out at him over it, mainly because he called them a somewhat obscure band. It was one of those exchanges that you remember for years after the fact and led to me never talking about music in public ever again. If you're somehow here reading this, I'm sorry, I was full of shit.

I'm not /mu/ but I think they're great. Love the transition from their first album to the more recent stuff.
